Six years of high school deserve more than an ordinary goodbye. This week, we wanted to make the Class of 2026’s final days something they could enjoy together and look back on long after they left school.

They revisited their primary school days, showed up with wonderfully creative choices for Crazy Hair and Wig Day, and spent an evening together at their Farewell Dinner at Bunbury Golf Club. There were light-hearted awards, dancing and time to enjoy the friendships that have grown over the years.

This morning, staff served breakfast before the Year 12 photo and farewell assembly. Acting Principal Mrs Tamara Nurse spoke about the pressure to know exactly what comes next. “You are choosing your next step, not your entire future,” she told students. She encouraged them to stay curious, keep learning and add one small word when they find themselves thinking “I can’t do this”: yet.

After a Red Frogs presentation about staying safe during Leavers, students changed into costumes and headed into their final hours together. The Bilya Wing filled with live music, food trucks, inflatables, games and staff taking their turn on the flushing machine. Shirts were signed. Names went onto the Leavers Board.

Then came the Run Down the Hill. Staff and students lined the way as the Class of 2026 came down the hill from Egret Wing and out through the school gates.

To the Class of 2026, thank you for the part you have played in the life of our school. To your families, thank you for the years you have shared with us. We hope you carry the friendships, the laughter and the people who believed in you wherever you go next.

As Term 3 comes to a close, thank you to our families, staff and community for the care and guidance you give our students. The time you take to listen, encourage and work together helps our young people feel connected and supported as they learn and grow.

This week also marks a special milestone for our Class of 2026 as we farewell them and wish them well for the next stage of their lives. For those preparing for examinations, we hope the break offers time for both study and rest.

Our Acting Principal, Tamara Nurse, has shared an end-of-term message on Compass, reflecting on the term and outlining some important reminders for Term 4. Please take a moment to read it.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable spring break. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday 12 October.

Congratulations to Year 10 student Emily, whose photograph was selected as a winning entry in the 2026 Aqwest Photography Competition.

This year’s theme, ‘Water Art’, drew 338 entries. Emily also regularly contributes to our student media photography team, capturing moments from around the school.

Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.

Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendship are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.

In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to support their young person’s friendship so that they experience a sense of belonging.

Celebrating Success | Feliza Grindrod, Year 7

Congratulations to Feliza, who achieved two wonderful results at the Southwest Piano Festival.

Feliza received a Gold Medal for her performance of Salsa by Daniel McFarlane and a Gold Medal with First Class Honours for Sailing Man, also by Daniel McFarlane.

Feliza is a member of our Specialist Jazz Music Program, and it is lovely to see her passion for music extending beyond the school. These results reflect the dedication and commitment she brings to developing her skills as a musician.

We are so pleased to see Feliza’s hard work recognised through these achievements.

We are proud to celebrate the many ways our students contribute, achieve and make a positive impact in their communities.

Families preparing for the 2027 school year have the option to book a uniform fitting with Uniform Concepts at its Bunbury Super Store during Term 4.

Booking a fitting during Term 4 may help families avoid the busier January period. Appointments can be booked online:

Computers are pulled apart, operating systems installed and viruses tracked down as our Certificate II in Applied Digital Technologies students put their skills to work.

It is all part of the practical knowledge students are developing through the newly reimagined course. From installing Windows and cleaning up computer systems to upgrading RAM, replacing graphics cards, maintaining hardware and working with command lines, students are learning not only how to complete each task, but also how and why it works

These skills have practical value beyond the classroom too, giving students the knowledge to maintain, upgrade and improve the performance of computers at home and in future workplaces.

This work takes place in our purpose-built IT unit, which includes a closed computer network designed specifically for hands-on learning. Within this controlled environment, students can safely identify and remove viruses, install software, test systems, troubleshoot problems and find out what happens when things do not quite go to plan. Australind Senior High School is one of only a small number of schools in WA able to offer students access to this type of facility.

When asked to share what they were working on, students confidently explained their tasks, findings and the thinking behind their decisions.

This is learning that moves beyond simply talking about technology. Students are working inside computers, diagnosing real problems and developing practical skills they can carry into further training, future employment and everyday life.

And when “turn it off and on again” does not solve the problem, they are learning what to try next.

Mental health is an essential part of a young person's overall wellbeing, influencing how they think, feel, learn and interact with others. Yet many of us can feel uncertain about how best to identify concerns, start conversations or access appropriate support.

Mental health literacy is not about becoming an expert. It's about recognising when something isn't right, knowing how to respond and understanding where to seek help when needed. By building this awareness and capability, we can play an important role in supporting wellbeing, reducing stigma and encouraging early help-seeking.

This Special Report explores how we can strengthen our mental health literacy and includes a Mental Health Literacy Reflection Tool. By completing a series of questions, you can reflect on your own understanding, confidence and readiness to support the mental health and wellbeing of young people.

It is an opportunity to identify your strengths, recognise areas where you may wish to build your knowledge and take positive steps towards feeling more confident in supporting children and young people.
