Meet the teachers at MAC - Samara Adamson-Pinczewski

Samara Adamson-Pinczewski is an Australian artist whose abstract geometric paintings and sculptures explore the experience of architecture and urban space. Her use of iridescent materials, sharply fragmented forms, and vibrant colour palettes complicate the viewer’s reading of space. Since 2000, Adamson-Pinczewski has featured in more than 90 exhibitions and her work can be found in major private and public collections throughout Australia. Adamson-Pinczewski has exhibited with Charles Nodrum Gallery since 2016.

Our last short courses for Term 3 commence this week at our Glenferrie Studio in Hawthorn. During our Abstraction course under the guidance of Samara Adamson-Pinczewski, you will explore how through careful pictorial arrangement, colour can suggest mood, line can create movement and energy, and shape can establish balance, tension, or harmony within a composition.
For those beginning or maybe reembarking on their painting journey, our Introduction to Painting course will take you through the fundamentals of painting. Artist and teacher David Hamilton will introduce you to underpainting, composition, value (light and dark), colour and painting techniques.

MACcontemporary: The ironwood carvings from the Tiwi Islands of Melville and Bathurst (80 km north of Darwin, NT) are a profound expression of Aboriginal culture. Using highly durable and dense local ironwood, Tiwi artists craft two main forms: Tutini (Pukumani poles) and Tokampini (bird and figurative sculptures).

Tutini are monumental, solid log pillars intricately carved and painted with natural ochre, serving as sacred monuments during Pukumani mourning ceremonies (the word pukumani translates to “taboo” or “forbidden”). Meanwhile, Tokampini represent ancestral beings and native birds deeply tied to Tiwi creation mythology. Contemporary Tiwi artists continue to carve these powerful sculptures, blending ancient ceremonial traditions with modern artistry to keep their rich cultural heritage alive. Commencing Tuesday 25th August, leading Australian contemporary abstract artist Samara Adamson-Pinczewski will present this specialist studio based, abstraction short course. During Abstraction: Colour, Shape and Line through Kandinsky and Klee, you will explore how to use the elements of abstraction, colour, shape and line in your abstract art practice.

By studying the works of Kandinsky and Klee, students will investigate how abstract artists organise visual elements to communicate feeling, movement, and meaning without relying on realistic representation.

Samara will provide a historical and theoretical context as you progress through the sessions.

This is a studio based practice course focusing on abstraction, colour, shape and line in your abstract art practice. A wide range of mediums are available, including drawing and painting in acrylics.

Classes sizes are limited to ensure one-on-one tuition.

Meet the teachers at MAC – David Hamilton

Well regarded in the art community, David Hamilton is a local contemporary artist and art teacher. David holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (Honours) and a Masters of Art by Research in Painting both from RMIT University, Melbourne.
David’s most recent solo exhibitions include Twelve Small Landscapes (2025) and The Landscape Listens (2024), Gallery Jennings Kerr, Robertson, NSW by whom he is currently represented.
David has a long teaching history at RMIT and Monash University and has had an impressive career as an artist for over 30 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and vast experience to share and his students and his classes at Melbourne Art Class are always well received.

David’s next short course, Introduction to Painting, begins Thursday 27th August and is suitable for both beginner and intermediate artists with places still available.

MACcontemporary: Acclaimed Indian artist Jagannath Panda (born 1970) critically explores the friction between rampant urbanisation and the natural world. His artwork acts as a bridge between the traditional and the modern, capturing the anxieties, displacements and paradoxes of a rapidly developing nation. In his paintings, animals like crows, eagles, goats and owls frequently act as central figures who have experienced the effects of ecological disturbances. They also serve as symbols for marginalised communities navigating industrial spaces. The artist also juxtaposes mythological motifs directly with concrete geometry and skyscrapers. These paintings are: City Above and Under, Immortalise, An Avatar of the Metropolis (top) and Festive Night (bottom).

One of the most stunning paintings to emerge from our MAC studios this year has been Alissa's copy of "Jeune homme nu assis au bord de la mer (Young Man Sitting by the Sea)", originally painted in 1837 by the French neoclassical painter Jean-Hippolyte Flandrin. Meet the teachers at MAC - Marco Corsini

As Director and founder at Melbourne Art Class, Marco needs very little introduction.
Marco founded the Enderby Studio Art Program in 2009 which later developed into what is now Melbourne Art Class. Marco specialises in painting and drawing and has exhibited in both Australia and Europe. He has been a finalist in several awards including the Rick Amor Drawing Prize and was the Chief judge for the 2021 Camberwell Art Prize. Marco has run creative workshops for many companies and has been an instructor for Google worldwide.
Previously Marco has taught in the Victorian school system and now focuses on supporting and empowering children, teens and adults in their creative journeys in our highly coveted term Studio Art classes where he provides valuable feedback and coaching to future and current artists.
Alongside running Masterclasses at MAC, Marco is also available for private coaching and specialised tuition for individuals looking to further build on their skills but unable to commit to a full term of Studio Art.
