Hello Families,

We have another exciting month ahead filled with opportunities for learning, exploration and fun! Please see below what’s happening throughout August.

🖤💛❤️ National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
📅 Tuesday 4th August

Children will participate in meaningful learning experiences celebrating the culture, identity and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Together, we will explore stories, art, music and traditions while recognising the importance of connection, belonging and respect.

🦷 Dental Health Week
📅 3rd–10th August

Throughout the week, children will learn about healthy teeth and healthy eating through engaging experiences that promote good oral hygiene habits and lifelong wellbeing.

🔬 National Science Week
📅 15th–23rd August

Get ready for a week of discovery! Children will explore hands-on science, STEM and inquiry-based learning experiences designed to spark curiosity, problem-solving and creativity.

🐠 Ocean Life Incursion
📅 Thursday 20th August

We are excited to welcome Ocean Life Education to our centre for an interactive marine experience! Children will have the opportunity to meet fascinating sea creatures while learning about marine life, conservation and caring for our oceans.

📚 Children’s Book Week & Dress-Up Week
📅 22nd–28th August

This year we’re celebrating Book Week all week long! Children and educators are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character on any day they attend throughout the week, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to join in the fun.

Throughout the week we’ll enjoy storytelling, literacy experiences, imaginative play and lots of book-inspired activities as we celebrate the joy of reading together.

We are looking forward to another wonderful month of learning, laughter and creating special memories with our children and families.

🌟 Investing in Our Educators, Investing in Our Children 🌟

Last night, the teams from Milestones Early Learning Augustine Heights and Kids Academy Redbank Plains came together for an engaging and collaborative professional development evening.

Together, we explored the Educator Toolkit for Behaviour and were introduced to the Phoenix Cups® Framework – a contemporary approach to understanding children’s behaviour through the lens of humanistic and positive psychology. This evidence-informed framework supports educators to recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and equips us with practical strategies to build positive relationships, strengthen emotional regulation, and create environments where every child feels safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.

At Milestones Augustine Heights, we are committed to ongoing professional learning to ensure we continue providing the highest quality education and care for every child. By continually developing our knowledge and reflective practices, we can better support each child’s individual strengths, wellbeing and learning journey.

This professional development aligns with:
✨ Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) V2.0
• Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity.
• Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
• Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.

It also supports the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLG) by strengthening responsive teaching practices, supporting children’s social and emotional wellbeing, promoting secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships, and fostering children’s agency and resilience.

Our learning also reflects the National Quality Standard (NQS), including:

🌟 Please Join Us in Welcoming Miss Sam! 🌟

We are very excited to officially welcome Miss Sam to our Milestones Augustine Heights family as our new Assistant Centre Manager (ACM)! 💛
Here’s a little bit about Sam in her own words:
“Hi everyone! My name is Sam, and I have been working in Early Childhood Education and Care for the past 6 years. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work across a variety of roles and age groups. I began as a Room Leader in the Nursery, before expanding my experience by supporting our Kindergarten rooms.
From there, I stepped into the role of Educational Leader, where I developed a strong passion for supporting educators, strengthening curriculum and practice, and creating meaningful learning opportunities for children. Most recently, I have been working as an Assistant Centre Manager for the past 7 months, continuing to grow my leadership experience and support children, families and educators.
I am so excited to be joining the team at Milestones Augustine Heights and look forward to getting to know all of our wonderful children and families!” 🌈✨

🌟👩‍🍳 LOOK WHAT’S COMING TO MILSTONES EARLY LEARNING AUGUSTINE HEIGHTS! 👩‍🍳🌟

We are so excited to announce that Cooking Classes with Chef Lavika are coming soon! 🍴✨
Our little chefs will have the opportunity to explore, create, taste and learn through fun, hands-on cooking experiences designed especially for children.

🍫 First on the menu… Egg & Dairy Free Lamingtons! 🥥
To ensure every child can participate safely, our first recipe has been specially adapted using Nuttelex and is egg free and dairy free, making it suitable for many of our children’s dietary requirements and allergies.

Cooking experiences are so much more than making delicious food, they help children to:

🧑‍🍳 Build confidence and independence
🥣 Develop fine motor skills
🔢 Explore early maths through measuring and counting
🗣️ Build language and communication skills
🤝 Learn teamwork, patience and turn-taking
🌱 Develop healthy eating habits

✨ Engage all of their senses through hands-on learning
These exciting experiences are closely linked to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and our Lifelong Learning Curriculum, supporting children’s learning through real-life, meaningful experiences.
We can’t wait to share this exciting new journey with our families and watch our little chefs create, learn and have fun in the kitchen! 💜

🌟 Bravehearts Ditto Show Visit 🌟

Yesterday, our Kindergarten children had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Bravehearts Ditto Show, an engaging and interactive educational experience designed to support children’s understanding of personal safety and protective behaviours.
Through songs, stories, discussions, and the much-loved Ditto mascot, the children were highly engaged and actively participated throughout the session. The program encouraged important conversations about feelings, identifying trusted adults, understanding body safety, and knowing that it is always okay to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.

At Milestones Early Learning Augustine Heights, we believe empowering children with age-appropriate knowledge and strategies helps build their confidence, resilience, and sense of safety. The Ditto Show provided a fun and meaningful way for children to learn these valuable life skills in a supportive and child-friendly environment.

We are incredibly proud of how respectfully and enthusiastically our children participated, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their ideas during the session.

A big thank you to Bravehearts for delivering such an important and engaging program for our children. 💙

💙🐾 Ditto reminded us all that we have the right to feel safe, to say no, and to talk to a trusted adult whenever we need help. 🐾💙
