Auburn Girls High School is proud to share that two of our Year 12 students, Seray and Sibgha, have had original compositions published in the online journal Barribugu, which was created for the publication and nurturing of the next generation of writers by Australia’s oldest literary journal, Southerly. Students whose pieces are accepted for publication work with an editor to discuss and refine their compositions, providing a valuable experience of the writing industry. When published, students' work is publicly available, to be shared with family, friends and the wider literary community:

Sibgha Rana: https://barribugu.southerlylitmag.com.au/2026/02/24/beneath-the-bruise/

Seray and Sibgha were also awarded a certificate and a $50 voucher, which will be presented to them at assembly to acknowledge their significant achievement in front of the school community.

Auburn Girls is very proud of the way these students have used their voice and talents to make such a valuable contribution to the field of literature. Congratulations, Seray and Sibgha.

Beneath the Bruise – Barribugu The house is quiet, but the air holds its breath. It always does when Waseem gets home. I stand in the kitchen, stirring lentils with shaking hands. On the windowsill, the basil plant droops again, leaves curling inward. I tell myself I’ll water it later.

Our Harvey Norman Young Women’s Leadership Academy Year 9 & 10 students had an inspiring day exploring Bradfield City Centre last Thursday! Students toured the First Building, learned about the future of advanced manufacturing, technology and sustainable cities, and met women leading innovative projects.
A wonderful opportunity to build leadership skills, explore future career pathways and see innovation in action. Thank you to Western Sydney University and Harvey Norman for making this experience possible! 🌟

The Year 12 Legal Studies class of 2026 would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Paradise Charnock Hing Law Firm for hosting us on Tuesday 12 May 2026. The class would particularly like to thank the amazing Ms Lea Osmanagic who organised everything and generously shared her experience from completing the HSC, then studying law at university and now practising it. We were blown away with your journey and your tenacity.
Lea also arranged for us to meet and hear from Supreme Court Barrister, Ms Carolina Soto, who specialises in family law and criminal law, a unique combination and equally unique story!

AGHS was delighted to be part of Mirvac’s National Community Day, held at our school in partnership with the GWS Giants.

Throughout the day, students from our SRC and Support Unit worked alongside volunteers to help develop our school garden and celebrate the official opening of our new greenhouse, generously donated by AGHS parents. The day was led by horticulturalists from Regal Innovations, who guided students through designing garden spaces, planting vegetables, and learning about sustainability and the value of community service.

AGHS sincerely thanks everyone involved for their support and contribution. We look forward to seeing the garden and greenhouse become a thriving and valued part of school life for years to come.

Jake McKinely - Law Firm Tour Foulsham & Geddes

Principal Solicitor - Jacob Carswell-Doherty

Year 11 legal studies students from Auburn Girls High School visited the firm today.

My message to them was simple. They have a duty to become lawyers. The justice system needs to look like the community it serves.

The NSW Supreme Court has never had a judge who wears a hijab or a burqa. We also need more judges of African, Middle Eastern, Asian and subcontinental background on the bench. That is a gap. Someone in that room today might be the one to close it.

A bench that reflects the community is not a matter of optics. It is a matter of legitimacy. Decisions are accepted when the people making them are drawn from across the society they bind. Every part of Sydney deserves to see itself on the other side of the bar table.

To the students who came through today: the profession needs you. Get your marks, get your degree, get admitted. Then take your seat.
