The recently concluded presidential election will go down in history as the most peaceful ever held in Sri Lanka. Since I have been away from Sri Lanka for over 53 years, I miss the opportunity of voting.

However, I did support AKD/NPP purely because I worry a lot about the plight of the needy and the poor in Sri Lanka and look at them with empathy. This is my nature, which has helped me in the last four decades to empower thousands of people worldwide to step forward positively while understanding the numerous challenges they face.

Now that AKD is our president, we should all wish him all the best. Those who hold different political views need to accept this outcome and pray that he and his team will deliver what we want to see—that is, to minimise corruption and wastage in the public sector while maintaining law and order equally for every citizen of Sri Lanka.
Please do not expect changes overnight, as Sri Lanka is going through the worst economic crisis ever. Do not criticise AKD and NPP without giving them time to breathe. While appreciating the good deeds of the new regime, let us now attend to our duties effectively without wasting much time on Social Media.
