A Symphony of Stories!

What a beautiful way to celebrate Book Week!

Our Book Week Assembly brought this year’s theme, A Symphony of Stories, to life as we celebrated the books, characters and stories that spark our imaginations, make us laugh, help us learn and sometimes stay with us long after we’ve turned the final page.

And what is A Symphony of Stories without music? Our wonderful clarinet ensemble performed Hedwig’s Theme, and Year 6 student Elijah performed You’ve Got A Friend in Me on the saxophone.

The celebration continued with our Morning of Stories, as we welcomed family members into classrooms to read alongside our students. There was something very special about seeing our school filled with children and adults sharing books together. A lovely reminder that a love of reading is nurtured not only at school, but through families, relationships and community.

And because the grown-ups have favourite stories too, make sure you stop by our front office to see our display of staff members’ favourite books. You might discover a familiar favourite, or something new to add to your own reading list!

Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the morning so special. When we share stories, we share a little of ourselves, and last Friday our whole community added its voice to the symphony.

💚💙 The week that was… and the community that makes it possible 💙💚

It’s been another wonderfully busy week at Athelstone School!

Our students have been learning important skills through Water Safety lessons, our Senior Choir headed to the Entertainment Centre for rehearsal, and our young athletes represented us at SAPSASA Athletics.

Three very different experiences, but all with something important in common…

They don’t happen without a community of teachers and families who care about our kids.

Behind every excursion, rehearsal, sporting event and opportunity is a small army of adults making it possible: adjusting routines, organising transport, packing bags, finding missing hats and drink bottles, volunteering time, cheering from the sidelines, and simply making sure children are where they need to be.

To our parents and caregivers: thank you.

Thank you for working alongside us. Thank you for the early mornings, the logistics, the encouragement and the trust. Thank you to those who volunteer, transport, support and show up (often while juggling plenty of other things yourselves).

Schools are at their best when children know that the adults around them are on the same team.

And this week has been another beautiful reminder that our students are surrounded by a community that shows up, cares deeply and wants them to flourish!

💙 Do It For Dolly Day – Spreading Kindness Through Stories 💙

Today, we would like to acknowledge Do It For Dolly Day, a day that reminds us of the power of kindness, connection, and looking out for one another.

Our amazing Bel has thoughtfully created a special display of books celebrating kindness, friendship, and inclusion; stories that open hearts, spark conversations, and remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference.

📚 We warmly invite our families to visit the library over next week, choose a book from the display, and spend some time reading together. Or you might like to discuss some of the conversation prompts together.

📖 Whether before school, after school, or during a quiet moment, these shared stories are a beautiful way to reinforce the values we hold as a community. Our library is open before school on Tuesday - Thursday.

Let’s continue to build a culture where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported, today and every day.

💙 Be kind. Always. 💙

⭐️ Today we acknowledge World Autism Awareness Day - a time to celebrate neurodiversity and affirm our commitment to being a genuinely inclusive, neuro-affirming school.

⭐️ At Athelstone School, we recognise that every learner brings unique strengths, ways of thinking, and ways of experiencing the world.

⭐️ Being a neuro-affirming school means we:
• Respect and celebrate differences
• Foster environments where all students feel safe, understood, and able to thrive
• Listen to and learn from autistic voices
• Focus on strengths, not deficits

🌟 We are proud to promote a culture where every student belongs, feels valued, and is supported to succeed, exactly as they are.
