Beach Day and Jellurgal Excursion

Over the past few weeks, 2B have been lucky enough to take part in two wonderful learning experiences to support their English and HASS assessments.

Their Beach Day was a fantastic opportunity to explore and learn about the beach through a range of fun, hands-on activities. They then enjoyed their excursion to Jellurgal, where they had the opportunity to learn more about the significance of this special local place and its connection to Aboriginal culture and history.

2B thoroughly enjoyed both experiences and were excited to share their learning with their classmates. It was wonderful to see everyone engaged, curious and having such a wonderful time while learning outside the classroom!

This week (23–29 August) is Speech Pathology Week

We celebrate and thank our very own Speech Pathologist here at Ashmore State School, Chloe, for the incredible support she provides to our school community.

Chloe's care, dedication and expertise make a real difference in the lives of our students every day.

We are so lucky to have such an amazing speechy as part of our team — thank you for all that you do!

Last Sunday, nine of our talented students proudly represented Ashmore State School at the LTQ Japanese Speaking Competition held at Griffith University.

Each student demonstrated incredible courage, confidence and dedication when presenting their Japanese speech. They represented our school wonderfully, and we are extremely proud of everyone who participated!

A special congratulations to Lia, who placed 1st in the Year 5 Japanese Background Division, and Summer, who placed 3rd in the Year 5 Japanese Language Division, an outstanding achievement!

A big thank you to Mr Micallef and Mrs Anderson for their wonderful support of our students and for giving up their Sunday to attend the competition and cheer them on.

Well done to all nine students for embracing this fantastic opportunity and showcasing their Japanese language skills.

GOLD FOR ASHMORE SS CONCERT BAND!

A huge congratulations to our Ashmore SS Concert Band, who achieved an outstanding 2nd Place and GOLD Award at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod!

The adjudicator praised the band’s excellent ensemble control, beautiful phrasing, tonal quality, balance and attention to detail, describing their performances as “most impressive” and “a really tidy ensemble.”

Special recognition was also given to our flutes, saxophones, trumpets and percussion, along with the wonderful way the band brought the story and character of each piece to life.

Congratulations to all of our talented musicians and to Mr Armstrong for his dedication, preparation and leadership. What a fantastic achievement!

STEM Cup Finals at Griffith University!

On Thursday, Ashmore took 20 students to compete against 9 other schools, made up of the top-performing schools from STEM Cup competitions across the region. Our students worked brilliantly throughout the day, showing creativity, teamwork and problem-solving across five challenges: Balsa Bridge, Boulder Dash, Trebuchet, Crypto and Paper Rockets.

A special congratulations to Cody, Zac, Oliver and Leo, who were crowned Boulder Dash Challenge Winners! An outstanding effort from everyone, with Ashmore finishing 2nd overall!

We are incredibly proud of all 20 students and the way they represented Ashmore! A big thank you to Mr Brewer for preparing and supporting our students throughout the competition. Thank you also, to Griffith University, , , and for organising and hosting such a fantastic event.

Last Friday, our talented Year 5 & 6 Performing Arts students took to the stage to showcase their drama and dance pieces. 🎭💃

Congratulations to all of the girls on their wonderful performances — you should be very proud! 🌟

GOLD for our Novice Band!

A huge congratulations to our incredible Novice Band, who performed at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod on Sunday, placing 3rd overall and receiving a GOLD ranking!

The adjudicator praised the band’s confidence, energy and musicianship, describing their performances as bold, convincing, powerful and exciting.

From the bold opening of Marching Madness, to the energy of Power Rock, and the fun and flair of Old MacDonald Had a Band, our students performed each piece with confidence and enthusiasm.

A very special thank you to Mr Armstrong for his dedication, encouragement and the countless hours of preparation that helped our young musicians shine on stage.
