Meet the Cassar Family 💙

For some families, the connection to Aquinas spans generations.

Chris Cassar commenced at AQ in 1993 and looks back on his time at the College with fond memories and experiences that have stayed with him.

Years later, when it came time for Chris and his wife Emma to choose a school for their four children, returning to Aquinas was an easy decision. Chris’ own experience gave the family a strong connection to the College and confidence in the opportunities and community their children would experience.

Now, Chris, Emma and their children are creating their own memories and becoming part of the next generation of the Aquinas community.

Aquinas Touch Football continues to shine 🏉

A huge congratulations to our 18 Mixed and 15 Girls teams on an outstanding preliminary season in the 2026 All Schools competition.

🏆 18 Mixed – SQBD Champions (undefeated), SWANS Runners-Up and King’s Cup Semi Finalists
🏆 15 Girls – Inaugural King’s Cup B Grade Champions (undefeated) and Quarter Finalists at both SQBD and SWANS against strong higher-graded opposition

We are incredibly proud of how they represented Aquinas on and off the field and wish both teams all the best at the Queensland All Schools Championships.

A Student’s Perspective: Volunteering with Rosies 💙

Josh, one of our students, shares his experience volunteering with Rosies and gaining a deeper understanding of homelessness in our local community.

Read Josh’s reflection below and hear about the experience in his own words.

“On Monday, August 17, Keira, Lucy and I volunteered with Rosies. We arrived at St Kevin’s and helped prepare hot food and drinks for people experiencing homelessness who attended the outreach.

We then travelled to St Vincent’s Catholic Church in Surfers Paradise, where we handed out dinner and had conversations with those who came along.

It was a really insightful experience that taught me more about the growing issue of homelessness on the Gold Coast. I was also surprised by the diverse range of people experiencing homelessness. It really showed me that homelessness can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender or culture.

It was a great experience that I think others should take part in, and I’ll definitely be doing whatever I can to support people experiencing homelessness after this experience.”

Year 10 Camp 🌿

Our Year 10 students had an incredible time at camp with Adventure Alternatives in August.

Throughout the camp experience, students embraced new challenges, stepped outside their comfort zones and created lasting memories together. They demonstrated teamwork, resilience and courage, while supporting and encouraging one another through a range of activities.

A huge thank you to the staff who attended and supported our students throughout the camp, and to Adventure Alternatives for providing such a memorable experience.

Congratulations, Finn! 🌱

We’re excited to welcome Finn to the Aquinas College Grounds Crew as he begins his Certificate II in Horticulture Traineeship.

Over the next two years, Finn will complete his qualification through Axiom College while gaining valuable hands-on experience alongside our dedicated Grounds Team.

It was wonderful to celebrate Finn’s first day with his proud dad, supervisor Mark and Mr Richardson as he officially joined the Aquinas College staff team.

We’re proud to support pathways that empower our young people to learn, grow and thrive, and we wish Finn every success in this exciting new chapter.

Japan Trip 2026 🇯🇵

Our students have arrived in Tokyo and have already been busy exploring.

They’ve visited Harajuku, Akihabara, Shibuya Crossing and Tokyo Disneyland, while enjoying the food and culture Japan has to offer. They’ve also caught up with some of their Rikkyo buddies along the way.

With 10 more days to go, there are plenty more adventures ahead.

Last week, our AQ community came together for our R U OK? Day Pop-Up to show their support, connect with one another, and help spread an important message: checking in can make a difference.

It was wonderful to see our staff and students taking the time to look out for their mates, friends and family creating meaningful connections and reminding each other that no one has to face things alone.

Good luck, Year 12! ✨

As our Year 12 students complete their mock examinations and prepare for the conclusion of their schooling, we wish them every success for this important stage of their journey.

May they approach each challenge with confidence, perseverance and trust in their abilities. Inspired by Catherine McAuley’s words, “We must strive to do ordinary things extraordinarily well,” we encourage our students to stay focused, give their best and remember that consistent effort makes a difference.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 12 students and wish them all the very best for the exciting journey ahead.

In conversation with AQ - Chris Ash ⭐️

Meet Chris Ash, Assistant Principal Learning and Teaching at Aquinas College.

With 13 years in education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership, Chris is passionate about creating learning environments where students can thrive.

Recently Aquinas has achieved outstanding NAPLAN results, with students performing above the national average in reading, writing and numeracy.

Through the Annual Improvement Plan, the College is continuing to strengthen student outcomes through explicit teaching, consistent classroom routines and targeted interventions.

Chris also shares how Aquinas is embracing AI thoughtfully, using technology to support learning while encouraging students to engage with it critically and intentionally.
