BUSTING THE MYTHS ABOUT DYSLEXIA ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Itโ€™s Dyslexia Awareness month! So we wanted to take time to debunk some of the many misconceptions about dyslexia.

** Save this post for future reference**

While some children with dyslexia do write their letters backwards, some donโ€™t.
Incorrect, dyslexia is a neurological condition, genetic in origin.
While intervention makes a big difference in helping dyslexic individuals learn to read it is a lifelong learning disability.
Reading at home and being exposed to reading is important for all childrenโ€™s learning development. However, dyslexia doesnโ€™t occur because of a lack of exposure to reading.
The amount of effort your child puts into their reading has nothing to do with their ability to read. Research has proven that the brain functions differently in individuals with dyslexia. Therefore, itโ€™s the type of instructions and way of teaching that will make the biggest impact.

How Dyslexia is a Different Brain, Not a Disease 05/12/2019

How Dyslexia is a Different Brain, Not a Disease Students, parents, and teachers must understand that the dyslexicโ€™s brain isnโ€™t โ€œbrokenโ€ or deficient, just organized in a different way. And there is specialized reading instruction specifically for the different brain structure.

Dyslexia is a neurological condition, genetic in origin. Dyslexia is characterised by difficulty with fluent word reading and spelling. This is the International dyslexia association's definition https://dyslexiaida.org/definition-of-dyslexia/
