This is a really fantastic opportunity. Please check out this Music Industry Mentoring Program run by The Push
This program connects young people with workplace experience across Australia’s music industry. It’s a free program for young people at the start of their careers. If successful in being selected they will be placed with a real music organisation, working across live events, production, marketing, or the business side of music gaining real industry experience, building networks, and developing the skills and confidence to take the next step in their career. They will receive a $3500+ honorarium to conduct approx. 150 hours of work alongside a mentor between August and December 2026. Since 2024, more than 30 young people have worked inside leading music organisations across Australia, learning on the job with people working in the music industry. Many these have gone on to full-time employment in the industry.

UNE Music was delighted to participate in The PUSH Music Careers Expo, connecting with aspiring musicians and students interested in pursuing careers in the music industry. Throughout the day, Dr Paul Smith, Alana Blackburn and Dr Donna Hewitt engaged with attendees at the UNE information stall, discussing study pathways and the diverse opportunities available within the music sector.

Dr Paul Smith and Dr Donna Hewitt also took part in an industry panel, sharing insights from their professional experiences in music. They later presented an interactive Music for Screen workshop, where participants collaborated to create a micro-film on the spot and explored how different musical choices can dramatically shape the meaning and emotional impact of moving images.

The event was filled with energy, creativity, and enthusiasm, featuring a diverse range of workshops, performances, and industry discussions that were warmly received by the engaged audience. UNE was proud to be part of an event that supports and inspires the next generation of music industry professionals.

Some wonderful presentations from UNE Music students to conclude our 3 day annual workshop gathering. The past three days included lectures and hands on workshops from music staff, along with presentations from Nikki Tuckwell (APRA AMCOS), Matt Ridgeway (Ableton Live), and major festival and event organiser Rachael Chant. Students workshopped new compositions and arrangemens, explored collaborative performance approaches, and experimented with Ableton Push controllers - improvising soundtracks in real time to short films. A fantastic opportunity to connect, discuss and create together.

Fantastic to have Nikki Tuckwell from APRA AMCOS presenting to music students at UNE Sydney today. We all learnt a lot.
