Week 2 of our Story Dogs sessions has been another wonderful success! Students continue to build their confidence and reading skills while sharing stories with their patient four-legged listener Mackenzie. The smiles, enthusiasm and growing confidence we see each week are truly special.
A big thank you to our dedicated volunteer Jayne and her amazing canine companion from Story Dogs for helping make reading a positive and enjoyable experience for our students.

As Reconciliation Week comes to a close, Pioneer Village School reflects on the importance of learning, understanding and respect for Australia’s first people.
From our Pre-primary students learning about Australia’s past through stories and brainstorming activities to our Year 5 and 6 students hearing directly from Indigenous speakers, these experiences help create empathy, respect and a shared commitment to reconciliation.

We are excited to introduce Story Dogs to our reading program at Pioneer Village School.
Story Dogs will support our students by providing opportunities to read with a trained dog in a quiet space outside the classroom.

Thank you to our Principal, Mr Mac, and our wonderful dads who woke up early to volunteer their time and prepare a delicious breakfast for our special mums this morning.
A big thank you also to our P&F for organising and selling a beautiful variety of gift bags — we are sure many mums will wake up to a lovely surprise on Sunday morning.
Wishing all of our mums and mother figures a very Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday. We appreciate everything you do for our children and school community!

Students from Pioneer Village School transformed the natural landscape into a beautiful piece of art this week for Art on the Scarp.
We invite you to come down this weekend and wander along the peaceful trail, where you can discover unique artworks created entirely from natural materials found in the surrounding environment.
A special thank you to our local artist, Mr Jacob Morris, for his inspiration and valuable contribution to bringing these creations to life.

Our school community came together for a meaningful ANZAC Assembly to honour and remember those who have served. Students proudly sang both the Australian and New Zealand national anthems, stood in silence during the Last Post, and observed a minute of reflection.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Armadale Police Rangers for attending and delivering a thoughtful speech, and to Councillor Gary Smith for joining us and laying a wreath. We also thank the families who attended and supported this important occasion.
Our students showed great respect as they laid wreaths at the flags, and our student leaders carried out the flag raising with pride.
Lest we forget.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is back for 2026, and we’re excited to take part at Pioneer Village School! 📚
Students from Kindy through to Year 6 are encouraged to read as many books as they can between now and Friday 12 June. This is a wonderful opportunity to build a love of reading, explore new stories, and challenge themselves along the way.
There are also prizes to be won for participation and achievement, adding an extra layer of motivation for our young readers.
We encourage all students to get involved and start logging their reading progress. To register and find out more, visit the Premier’s Reading Challenge website: www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au

We loved welcoming our wonderful grandparents to school for a special morning tea.
It was so heartwarming to see our students sharing this time with the people who mean so much to them. Thank you to all the grandparents who joined us, your presence made the morning truly special and created memories our students will cherish.
