CAREER BREAK RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS // Patrick Mazzocco from the 🏫University of Otago in New Zealand is completing a 🎓 PhD on the topic of having a career break and is inviting people to complete a 10 minute survey for a quantitative analysis.

Would you be willing to share your insights?
If so, go to https://otago.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_b331FNoAVcpOv0a and complete the survey.

This survey is anonymous and has had ethical approval from the university.
It is research like this that helps quantify our experience and provide a road map for the future - so I would like to encourage you to participate and share it with others who may also be able to contribute!

There are a lot of voices weighing in on the 'future of work'. Three observations standing out for me right now are:

1. Flexible working options are encouraging people to re-evaluate their work, for example for some it is opening up opportunities they hadn't thought of or jobs they had always wanted to do and can now access or questioning work approaches. Many women I work with have been working part time or started their own business as they needed the flexibility and these women are now encouraged to apply for full time work or to be an employee as more workplaces are allowing work to be done from home or not mandating it be done between 9-5pm.

2. The pandemic has fueled a need for increased people engagement or interaction. More and more I am hearing my clients saying they want to work in a team and/ or in roles where they can learn from others. Interestingly, these same people still favour working from home rather than in the office so a hybrid solution is ideal.

3. Shift in what 'success' means. I'm seeing more people rate work life balance above pay or career advancement.

What are you experiencing? I feel these are positive developments. I am happy to speak to anyone who is thinking of changing their career.

Unemployment is at a record low, but don't be fooled by the headline. You're counted as 'employed' if you work just one hour a week. Landing a job is still competitive and requires you to put your best self forward.
