Hiya,

What are you up to on Tuesday 1st - Weds 2nd September? Would you like to hang out with some donkeys?

We still have places available for our RFDS sponsored/supported Equine Assisted Wellbeing Program.

These come at NO cost to you, thanks to RFDS and Weipa Running Festival! Everything is provided. 🫶🏽

No experience with horses necessary.

These 2 days help you to recognise thought patterns that hold you back, behaviours you have learned over time that don't serve you and bring full awareness to your strengths.

You will understand more about your communication style, how to relax and regulate your nervous system as well as perhaps easing those around you, and we will make sure your time spent at Wolverton Station is fun.🌞🐴🐂

RFDS fully supports and invests in this incredible 2 days so you can learn strategies and tools that you may have never been taught before, to support you in life.

Good morning from beautiful calm Dizzy and Emma,

We have been spending a lot more time with Dizzy who is now 6 and we are really appreciating her growth and maturity as she blossoms. Before we begin any activities, Emma assesses how she is, checking in on how she’s going in that moment, which led us to this post. ☺️

Each of our horses have their own unique personalities as well as sensitivities. 💜

Did you know that you have your own unique sensory profile?

What many don’t realise is that our sensory needs also change from day to day. When we’re tired, stressed, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, things that normally don’t bother us can suddenly feel too much.

Children and horses are exactly the same.

That’s why when we are working with people or horses, we see behaviours as valuable information about how someone’s nervous system is experiencing the world. Not a reflection of ‘who’ they are, more ‘what’s happening in the moment’.

Most of us learnt about our key five senses :
👀 Sight
👂 Hearing
👃 Smell
👅 Taste
✋ Touch

But there are actually eight sensory systems. We also have:

Vestibular ~ our sense of movement and balance.

Proprioception ~ our awareness of where our body is and how much force we’re using.

Interoception ~ our awareness of what’s happening inside our body, like hunger, thirst, tiredness and emotions.

Imagine arriving here, at Wolverton Station, with..

The smell of the yards..
The crunch of dry grass under your feet..
The warmth of the sun..
The squark of the crows..
The movement of a 500kg horse..
The feel of a lead rope..
The sounds of birds, wind and other horses.
…and planes, vehicles, quads, tractor in the distance.

That’s such a massive amount of sensory information before someone has even touched a horse.

Understanding sensory processing helps us create environments where others feel safe, regulated and ready to connect, learn and grow.

Have you ever stopped to think about just how many sensory experiences exist before you even meet the horse? Or when you arrive at work?

A little food for thought.. ohhh and speaking of food… it’s now time for some fresh eggs and mushrooms 🥚🍳

Have a great Wednesday! 🤎

This reflection needs a little context... so it’s a little long 😉

This week, during the second day of one of our programs with eight participants, we experienced our very first case of colic. Right in the middle of the morning session, while we were all together in the yards, our beautiful mare, Star, suddenly went down.

It was quite confronting and emotional.

Thankfully, after prompt treatment, Star has recovered and all of the horses are well. 💛

Sometimes the most meaningful lessons in leadership, resilience and compassion aren't the ones we plan. They are the ones life places right in front of us.

We are thankful for the support around us and thankful for the emotional response that led to getting that support. 🥰

Mums and Daughters - what are you up to on the 8th and 9th August? 🌺

We have our ‘Mums n’ Daughters Connect’ weekend. All ages welcome. Limited places. 🌹

The weekend will help:

💕 understand how thoughts and feelings shape experiences and behaviours
💕 strengthen and learn how to communicate with each other to build connections and take home tools and strategies that will help calm any situation
💕 build compassion, empathy, self-discipline and understanding as you both care for the horses and interact
💕 build your relationship and connection, supporting each other through the activities.

Time with horses and time together in this open nature-based environment compliments the strength of the relationship between mother and daughter. Separate both of you from the pulls of life, from technology and from daily demands to focus on yourselves.

It will be fun. It will be relaxing. It will be life-changing.

When?
Saturday 10am to Sunday 1pm

Where?
Wolverton Station (180km south of Weipa)

What is included?
Accommodation, meals & drinks

How much?
$900 total (not each)

AND - perhaps stay at our delightful Wild Wishes Boutique Glamping for a totally unique experience. You’d be welcome to arrive Friday pm to fully immerse yourself in this beautiful environment.

This weekend’s focus is learning how thoughts and feelings shape experiences and behaviours, understanding and learning how to communicate with each other to build connections

Halter training with Sundancer has begun! 🐴

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been introducing him to the lead rope, and this week we placed the halter on him for the first time.

Already, he’s showing interest in leading and is beginning to understand our cues.

To build the foundations of balance, responsiveness and safety, we’ve been teaching him to yield, with wonderful success.

We invest a lot of time in verbal cues out here. I’d say he’s officially graduated from daycare to kindy! 🤩

Everyone has their own horsemanship style, and we love ours ~ Calm. Steady. Content. Safe.

Every horse is a unique piece of art. Our job isn’t to change who they are.. it’s to help them become the best version of themselves (through touch, time and attention).❤️
