Today we celebrated National Science Week with guest presenter Patrick Watt!

Students from Apsley and Frances joined together to learn about Simple Machines, Spinning and Water with some of their favourite parts including;
- learning how to lift a person with 1 hand
- hearing the sound a ruler makes when spun around in a circle
- dancing with a robot
- creating cardboard boomerangs that flew and returned with only a flick
- observing a boat run on birthday candles
- watching a few magic tricks including a disappearing coin and ropes that change length

A fabulous and interesting day for all involved!

Another successful athletics carnival with Frances PS. It was amazing to see so many parents, grandparents, extended family and friends, from two communities come together to cheer the kids along. Congratulations to Ballantyne who were this year’s winners. Junior champions were joint winners Harry and Joshua, junior girl champion Elsie, runner up was Kiiara and Floss. Senior champions were Billy and Issy. A special thanks to Mrs Fitz who coordinates the entire day. A great day was had by all.

A 178 trees planted today, mainly stringybark and buloke and then associated habitat species such as, Hakea’s, Banksia’s and Sheoak’s. These were planted over a couple of sites, in chilly conditions with Bron - Kids Helping Cockies Coordinator with BirdLife Australia. The students collected seeds last year and helped propagate them. It’s always nice to see the entire process from start to finish. The kids had a ball and we didn’t get bogged, like last year!

Pet Day 2026 done and dusted! The day started off with a presentation by vet nurse Eloise. The kids enjoyed learning about small animals, listening to Moos heart beat and finished off with a quiz.

Next we heard from local vet Jane. Jane spoke to the children about large animals and in particular cows. She was engaging and the kids loved it! Our final presenter was Josh Neille (wildlife warrior and social media influencer) via zoom. The students asked many wonderful questions and enjoyed what he had to share.

Next was our pet parade. Frankie, Leela and Alex organised some great activities such as an obstacle course and food eating competition.
There was a huge range of animals - dogs, cats, lambs, turtles, a goat, a calf, a bearded dragon and chickens!!! And all animals went home in one piece!!! Thank you to parents for bringing the animals in for the kids.

Days 3 and 4 of Senior School Camp

Day 3 - Our adventures began wandering around the Melbourne Zoo observing the animals and interacting with the butterflies.

We then headed to Bounce to burn of some energy on the wide variety of trampolines and the challenge course.

The State Library was the next stop, where the students took time out to read books and play chess.

We then had dinner at Grill’d at Melbourne Central before heading to the movies to watch Moana.

Day 4 started with the MCG tour, whereby the students got to explore all the rooms behind the scenes as well as heading out onto the oval. The sports museum was also very interesting.

We then headed back into the city to hear a presentation on “The Big Issue” and how this magazine production assists people who are homeless. A real eye opener for country kids!

Parliament House was the next location we visited, after getting through security!!! Mark the presenter was amazing and had the students engaged the entire time.

Pasta and Pizza on Lygon Street was sensational and everyone walked away with full bellies!

To finish the day off we went to Eureka Skydeck to view the city lights.

Our days are long and actioned packed but our students are enjoying every minute!

Day 2 Senior Camp. The day started off with us heading to the Arts Centre to complete a music workshop - creating and mixing our own music on a computer (right up Liam’s alley) The Shrine of Remembrance was the next stop to learn about some very important history of our country. The student’s asked so very interesting questions and Jackie our guide was fantastic.
A cruise along the Yarra, taking in the city sights was a time to rest our weary legs and then we went to have dinner followed by the highly anticipated Ice Skating. (Lots of laughs and no broken bones!!!) Bring on day three.
