The Wollondilly council has launched a “name the crane” and colouring competition, prompting me to invite the kids to participate. I displayed pictures of cranes on the iPad and we subsequently explored words that rhyme with crane.

The children's suggested names for the crane include Wayne the crane, Dane the crane, Thunder, and Robot lifter.

I will drop these off to Picton.Fingers crossed one of our entries win!

When Dan arrived at daycare, I asked my friend Dan which games he wanted to play from the storage tubs in the garage. Dan took a moment to think, before deciding on the magnet game and domino game. While waiting for more children to arrive, we played multiple rounds of these games. Daniel then took charge and organized a game of dominoes with the two younger children, offering patient guidance as they placed the tiles.

At the park yesterday, some children collected sticks and wanted to bring them back to daycare. I suggested that we might be able to use them to make Christmas tree decorations, and the children thought this was a good idea. As we wrapped pipe cleaners around our sticks, Audrey specified that she wanted yellow and pink.

Garbage trucks are a big deal here at Appin family day care!

On a surface level we see the children watching the rubbish being taken away but what else are we helping the children learn?

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
By taking the children outside to observe the bin truck and the cleanup process, this experience promotes an understanding of the environment and the role people play in maintaining it. It also fosters an awareness of the community and the importance of communal responsibilities. This aligns with Outcome 2, as the children are actively engaging with and contributing to their world by observing and learning from real-world events and processes.

BLOCK PLAY ROCKS!

It's ACTIVE learning, where head, heart & hands connect and children learn by DOING!

Be mindfully aware that there is no need to interfere or become involved, know when to step back, to wait watch & wonder & let them PLAY!

No need to constantly ask questions or feel the need to give our running commentary on what they are doing.
No need to ask them, what it’s going to be?

In this mornings play there was elephants drinking from water holes, dinosaurs napping, bridges and doors! And this was just all from the mouths of the babes.
