You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

— A.A. Milne

This is one of my favourite quotes.

A reminder of the greatness that is often hidden from clarity due to busy-ness and distractions.

Our interpretation and meaning are the filters we use.

What's your interpretation of this face?

Is it a smile, a quirky wink, a tease?

It is what you see it to be.

The shape of your mind's filtering system.

How do you tend to see the world?

Is it boxed?
Black and white?
Fluid?
Kaleidoscope?
All different sizes, shapes and colours?

The interesting thing about personal development, and in particular self-awareness, is that we get to choose.

The shape, colour and size of our internal filters through which we see, feel and connect with everything.

We can become more selective about which filter to use, in different circumstances, to maximise the outcomes.

Gosh, we can even change filters during interactions and experiences and see things from different perspectives, fairly& expansively.

The benefits?

Less bias, more empathy, compassion & connection.

More openness to opportunities, possibilities.

Identify the gaps, challenges and barriers & flip them faster.

The No. 1 cause of burnout is doing the same thing over and over again and not seeing results.

— Steve Kaczmarski

Is now the time to look at what could be different to change your future, avoid burnout and keep yourself on target with your desires?

Create structure, guidelines and routines that support your steps towards your goals.

Need to move more? Consider an exercise buddy.

Need to get more work done? Have someone be there waiting for the report, to do the calls with you, to walk alongside and support you.

Set a timer, and know what you are going to focus on for those 15, 45, or 60 minutes, then stop, flex and reflex before pivoting to the next block of time and activities.

Discipline and structure are learnt, not natural.

The date is coming up fast.

One week today, are you coming?

We chat, we laugh, we ask each other important questions.

We hold space for the concern, the uncertainty, the what ifs.

We gently guide you to see other perspectives, but if you need more grief support, we will encourage you to speak to a pro.

This is the way Death Cafes work.

They are spaces for sharing, learning, leaning into and holding space for each other.

To be heard, encouraged and guided to resources that may help you find the answer you are looking for.

We may be able to connect you with another,

You might even develop new friendships with people who appreciate the challenge.

Whatever the reason, season, or benefit you derive from the Cafe, you are most welcome to join us.

Please do RSVP so we ensure we have the space and chairs ready for everyone come and sit with us.

9.30 am start.

Think for a bit, how many people do you know?

How many are in your inner circle, friends, and acquaintance groups?

Then, do the maths. If 56 people, of all genders, are diagnosed with Breast Cancer, 9 people a day are dying, 1 for every 7 people, predominantly females will experience the breast cancer journey.

What that journey looks like for most is far from a road trip through the rainforest. More like a sleigh ride through the desert with not enough supplies.

Consider, if by donating, you helped at least one of your friends indirectly get in-home care so they don't need to worry about how clean the house is.

They could receive personal care help, so that while they adjust to their new body after treatment, they do this with someone who has been where they are now.

Imagine the mental and emotional support this could bring for partners knowing there is someone who totally gets the fear, frustration and struggle they face.

This is what I, and Honouring Life Education, have committed to. A month of 56/31. That is 56 squats per day for the 31 days of March.

Why?

Honouring Life Education is about supporting those who are navigating aging, palliative and end-of-life phases. Now, I know breast cancer is not an automatic terminal diagnosis for most people, yet 9 people a day die from breast cancer.

For those who have the diagnosis and accept treatment its not fun, and no promise of remission.

Everyone with a life-threatening condition still requires help, support, ideas, to get their documents in order and learn about what can be done for themselves and their families.

If our contribution helps these people, learn, access and be supported, then this is a win. I can't remove the threat, but collectively, we can help them along their journey.

Jeffery and I go back a long way. Years, actually, when we hopped on a podcast together during COVID. What we spoke about then led to a long-standing regard for his depth of exploration into the many facets of our psyche.
A recent episode explodes the idea of disassociation as a fault to be fixed, and putting things back together. But as therapists, we understand that the reasons behind disassociation are to protect the softer parts of our young mind struggling to live in what seems impossible situations.

Shutdown, avoidance, seperation still occur when needed as we go back to the learnt coping skills that helped us survive all those years ago.

I highly recommend listening to this and his other episodes to help understand the deeper why behind what you do.
