It is National Skills Week and the theme this year is Life Changing Skills, celebrating how vocational education and training (VET) can transform lives.
Tiani, a QMEA Student Ambassador from Pioneer State High School in Mackay, is passionate about becoming a heavy diesel fitter once she has graduated from school at the end of the year.
"I have always enjoyed practical tasks, problem-solving and working with tools, which led me to explore careers in the trades," said Tiani.

Year 11 Hospitality β Tanghulu!
Yesterday our Year 11 Hospitality students made Tanghulu, a traditional northern Chinese street food featuring fresh fruit coated in a crisp, shiny sugar shell. πππ In Hospitality, we always try to minimise food waste, so this was also a great opportunity to use up some of the leftover fruit from our Year 10 Mocktail Party assessment and turn it into these delicious little treats! A big thank you to Miss Pip for coming up with the idea, and to Miss Bec for helping the students safely work with the hot sugar syrup. They looked fantastic and, most importantlyβ¦ they were delicious!

Alex from Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy led a workshop with Year 7 students last week. Students worked in teams to assemble and complete a hydraulic arm. They then designed and built attachments to demonstrate innovation, aspects of engineering and design thinking. The day concluded with each team presenting their hydraulic arms and explaining it's purpose and features. Well done to the winning team! π¦

π£ Yesterday Year 12 Aquatic Practices students spent the day fishing at Louisa Creek with the Mackay Recreational Fishing Alliance (MRFA).
A huge shout out to the MRFA volunteers who shared their knowledge and time supplying bait and tackle and giving our students a fantastic hands-on learning experience, thank you! A special mention also has to go to Bonnie and Penny πΆπΆ, who were very popular members of the MRFA crew.
And the fish were biting! Our students caught around 50 fish throughout the day. Most were undersized and returned to the water, while a few legal catches made their way onto the BBQ alongside our sausage sizzle.
