Hello everyone! 👋
We’re Drew (Foxy) and Sarah-Ania (Feather) from The Feathered Fox Workshop in Lynwood, near Ballina and Lismore in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
We’re exploring the possibility of offering Hands-on Learning Workshop Sessions specifically for homeschooling families and would love to hear your thoughts before we develop a program.
Drew is a qualified TAS teacher and former Head Teacher with over 25 years of teaching experience. Sarah-Ania is a qualified School Learning Support Officer with 10 years’ experience supporting children with a wide range of learning needs.
We believe children learn best by doing.
Our aim is to provide a safe, welcoming workshop where children can slow down, think creatively, solve real problems, work with their hands, make mistakes, build resilience and leave with something they are genuinely proud to have made.
Rather than feeling like “school”, our workshop sessions are designed to provide authentic, hands-on learning. As children design, measure, build, test and create, they naturally develop skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), along with communication, confidence, independence and critical thinking.
Workshop sessions may include:
🪵 Safe and supervised use of real tools
🔨 Woodworking and construction projects
📐 Measuring, planning and practical maths
⚙️ STEM learning through hands-on projects
🧠 Problem solving and critical thinking
🎨 Creativity, design and innovation
🤝 Teamwork, communication and social connection
🌱 Confidence, resilience and the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands
Before we go any further, we’d genuinely love to hear from homeschooling families.
• What ages would you like to see catered for?
• Would weekly, fortnightly or occasional workshop sessions suit you best?
• What days or times generally work well?
• Would you be interested in one-off workshops or a progressive term program where children build their skills over time?
• What types of projects or practical skills would your children enjoy?
• What would you consider a reasonable price for a 2–3 hour workshop session with all materials included?
We’re not here to hard-sell anything—we’re here to listen first. We’d love to create something that genuinely supports homeschooling families while giving children opportunities to learn practical, real-world skills in a welcoming and encouraging environment.
Thank you so much for any advice, ideas or expressions of interest. We really appreciate your time and look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Feather’s son turned 30 over the weekend… and someone gave him this card.
Clearly he wasn’t raised at The Feathered Fox Workshop!
Because after a session with us, it’s:
Stop. Think. Choose the right tool. Have another go.
And NEVER, EVER whack it with a hammer just because the screwdriver didn’t work! 🤣
Building Skills – Building Community.
(And occasionally undoing Dad’s DIY advice.)
Come and learn the right way to whack things with a hammer. 🔨

🌭 This legend deserves a huge shout out… Mick and the team at Alstonville Plaza Meats! 👏
A massive thank you for so generously supplying the BBQ sausages for our school holiday workshops.
After a busy morning of measuring, drilling, sanding and creating, our young makers were more than ready to gather around the campfire for lunch. And what better way to feed a bunch of hungry kids than a good old Aussie BBQ sausage wrapped in a slice of fresh white bread with sauce? 🌭🔥
Simple. Delicious. Perfect.
We love seeing local businesses supporting local families and helping us create memorable experiences for the kids. Mick’s generosity meant one less thing for us to organise and one more thing for the children to enjoy.
If you’re after top-quality meat and old-fashioned friendly service, we’d love you to support Alstonville Plaza Meats as they’ve supported us.
Thanks again, Mick. You’re an absolute legend.
