Each term, our Secondary students have the opportunity to participate in Art Club and House Art Competitions, fostering creativity beyond the classroom. Within classes, students who demonstrate excellence are also recognised and celebrated.
We are proud to recognise Elsa P (Year 9) for her outstanding achievement in the Visual Arts. Elsa was awarded the Term 1 Faculty Art Award in recognition of her exceptional work across Art and Visual Communication Design (VCD).
Her creativity, technical skill, and dedication to her craft have set her apart. Elsa consistently demonstrates a thoughtful and innovative approach, producing work that reflects both originality and a strong understanding of visual language.
At Alphington Grammar, our Art and Creative Industries program fosters imagination, critical thinking, and the development of technical skills across a wide range of disciplines, including Art, VCD, and Media. Students are encouraged to explore their individual creative voice while building the confidence and capability to express ideas in meaningful and impactful ways. Elsa’s achievement is a wonderful reflection of the strength of this program and the opportunities it provides for emerging artists.
Congratulations, Elsa — a fantastic accomplishment and a well-deserved recognition of your talent and commitment!

Last week our Primary School students proudly participated in National Simultaneous Storytime, joining thousands of learners and educators across Australia (and even the world) to share Luna Roo, the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A. Minton.
This nationwide initiative highlights the power of storytelling to engage young learners and foster a lifelong appreciation for reading. Through a shared literacy experience, students are connected not only to the story itself, but to a broader community of readers engaging in the same moment.
Participation in National Simultaneous Storytime offers significant educational benefits to our students. It supports the development of essential literacy skills, including listening comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and language fluency. Importantly, it also nurtures students’ imagination and creativity, encouraging them to explore ideas, express themselves, and build confidence.
The narrative of Luna Roo, centred on perseverance, individuality, and the courage to pursue one’s passions—provides meaningful opportunities for reflection and discussion. Stories such as this help students to build empathy, resilience, and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
We thank our staff and students for their enthusiastic involvement in this valuable learning experience, and for continuing to embrace the joy and importance of reading.

Last week, School Captain James F, House Captain Zack T, and Year 8 students Sophia T and Zoe N proudly represented our School at the 85th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Crete. Standing alongside service men and women at the Shrine of Remembrance, our students took part in a moving wreath‑laying ceremony, followed by a memorial service at the Australian Hellenic Memorial. Together, these moments paid tribute to the remarkable courage, sacrifice and solidarity shown in 1941, when Australian, New Zealand, Greek and Cretan forces stood united against invasion.
The Battle of Crete remains a powerful chapter in our shared history, a story of bravery, resilience and the enduring bonds between the Australian and Greek communities. For our students, participating in this commemoration was more than an honour; it was an opportunity to engage deeply with the values that shape strong global citizens.
Moments like these remind us that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through experiences that connect them with history, culture and community, our students discover the world of opportunities available on their learning journey, opportunities to lead, to reflect, and to contribute meaningfully to the stories that continue to shape our society.
We are proud of our students for representing our school with respect, maturity and a genuine appreciation for the significance of this event.

Our Alphington Grammar School community came together to launch LOTE Week with a vibrant assembly celebrating the many languages and cultures that shape who we are. Students were inspired by guest speaker Alexandros Gerasimidis from LaTrobe Uni, whose journey to achieving excellence in Greek highlighted the lifelong opportunities language learning can unlock.
Students were also inspired by a powerful video presentation created by our Year 11 students, featuring students speaking a range of languages that reflect the diverse cultural backgrounds of our families—reminding us of the many voices, traditions and perspectives that make our community so unique. The assembly showcased outstanding performances, including a lively Chinese Dance Club piece and beautiful musical performances by Tianya L and Chloe K, who captivated the audience with Falling Petals and The Fisherman’s Song at Dusk. The celebration concluded with an energetic House dance-off featuring an African Haka, bringing the assembly to an exciting close.
Throughout the week, students experienced the richness of global learning through unique opportunities - from exploring the Hellenic Heritage Centre to participating in cultural workshops in Greek, Chinese drumming and Bollywood dancing, creative writing sessions, drama, music and art. These experiences, combined with reflection on UNESCO World Day for Cultural Diversity, empower our students to develop language skills, cultural awareness and the confidence to thrive in an interconnected world.
At AGS, language learning goes beyond the classroom, opening doors to global perspectives, meaningful connections and future pathways.
