Spent some time this afternoon reacquainting myself with the locals

The countdown is on, just booked our trip to Port Macquarie for a week and can’t wait to get amongst it. As always I will be hanging out with the guys from Port Jet Cruise Adventures who in my opinion are the best in the business. I’m also looking forward to catching up with fellow photographer Jodie Lowe's Marine Animal Photography who is the resident photographer with Port Jet and has managed some stunning captures over the years.

Whilst being on the road is good fun it’s also good to be home. One of the locals enjoying the sun.

This is an image I have shared before but as there are so many new followers on the page since last time I thought I would share it again. I had a plan whilst on a trip across the Nullabor a few years back, I got up and headed off just on sunrise slowly driving west with the hope of catching a we**ie on some roadkill. As luck would have it I found one and with the camera ready I jumped out just as it took off and I thought my chances of catching anything decent were minimal. As luck would have it the we**ie landed in this dead tree and just gave me the perfect light and opportunity.

Loving having the time to stop and smell the roses so to speak, despite a massive couple of weeks with the Finke Desert Race the 3000 odd km run home has been very pleasant. I love having the time to just stop and appreciate the country.

Some days are just lucky, after this morning’s close call this afternoon just out of Wilcania I spotted this stunning Wedged Tailed Eagle sitting on a rock close to the road. I pulled over fully expecting it to take off however it sat watching me allowing me to get within a few metres, I wondered if it may not have been as lucky as the eagle managed to miss this morning and had in fact been hit by a car. If anyone who is familiar with these amazing creatures can spot anything out of the ordinary please let me know in the comments. Eventually albeit awkwardly it flew to a tree about 100 metres away but something didn’t seem 100% right or maybe it’s a juvenile and still getting its wings so to speak.

One very lucky Wedged Tailed Eagle, it was obviously eating some roadkill and covered by bushes along the side of the road when it suddenly flew out. Fortunately I managed to miss it but thought I should pull over and see if I could spot it.
