KEIKI CATALINA - Where is the Green Sheep? 🐑

As part of our ongoing Early Literacy program, our Keiki Catalina educators bring a beloved book to life through sensory play each week.

Recently the children explored the Australian classic Where is the Green Sheep? by Mem Fox, using its rhythm, repetition and vibrant illustrations to support early language, listening and engagement.

The children enjoyed a green sheep sensory tray, searching for the hidden sheep while scooping, pouring and exploring the green sand.

This hands-on experience supported vocabulary, colour recognition, fine motor skills, concentration, problem-solving, sensory exploration, communication and social learning skills. It was a beautiful, calm and engaging way to make story time come alive! 💚🐑📖

KEIKI EDGEWATER - Little Insects🐜

The Toddler Room has been enjoying the start of spring and noticing the beautiful changes happening around our Edgewater gardens during the Noongar season of Djilba.

The children have been busy discovering all kinds of little bugs, from worms and ants to butterflies and our stick insects. They have enjoyed seeing how our stick insects grow and shed their skin through fun, hands-on experiences.

It has been a wonderful experience for the children and families as we watch our stick insects grow and transform. 🦋

KEIKI MINDARIE KEYS - Learning Auslan with Animals 🐄🐔

Auslan (Australian Sign Language) plays a meaningful role in our Joeys Room at Keiki Mindarie Keys. We introduce Auslan to our babies through songs, stories and everyday communication, beginning with simple signs such as “more”, “milk”, “finished” and “hungry”.

Over the past month, our babies have been learning new signs for farm animals while singing Old MacDonald Had a Farm. As different animals are shown and mentioned in song, our educator demonstrates the corresponding Auslan sign. The babies eagerly watch and imitate the hand movements, building their confidence and communication skills through play and repetition.

Auslan offers many benefits for young children. It supports early communication, promotes inclusion, and gives children the ability to express their needs and wants before they have developed strong verbal language skills. As their language develops, they continue to communicate through both verbal and non-verbal interactions, helping to strengthen their overall communication and social development. 💛

KEIKI TRINITY - Ahoy mateys! ☠

Our little pirates at Keiki Trinity had so much fun dressing up, exploring, using their imaginations and enjoying plenty of pirate adventures in recognition of Talk like a Pirate Day last week! ⚓️🦜

Talk Like a Pirate Day helps raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research and support. It provides a meaningful opportunity for our Keiki community to come together, raise awareness, show our support, and help create a brighter future for children and families affected by cancer.

A huge thank you to our wonderful families and educators for getting involved and helping us make a difference! 💛

KEIKI CATALINA - Creative minds at work 🎨

An art experience at Keiki Early Learning is always guided by the Reggio Emilia approach, allowing children express their creativity freely. This Indigenous art provocation at Keiki Catalina invited children to explore pattern, texture, colour, and storytelling through mixed media. Using inspiration from the original work, the children used a variety of materials and their own creativity to express their unique ideas and connections to place. Every piece tells a different story, celebrating the beauty of process, exploration, and the hundred languages of children. 🌿✨

KEIKI BUTLER - Wild Encounters 🐨

We had some very special visitors last week at Keiki Butler! As part of Save the Koala Month, we invited West Oz Wildlife to speak with the children all about our amazing Australian animals, how we care for them and why it's so important to protect them.

The day was filled with excitement, curiosity and learning as the children had the opportunity to get close with a blue-tongued lizard, a sugar glider, Ginger the snake and of course the beautiful koala Hazel. ✨

A big thank you to and all the animals who came to see us!

KEIKI MINDARIE KEYS: Fun Scary Puppet Show ✨

The children at Mindarie Keys enjoyed a wonderful 'Fun Scary' puppet show from Constable Care as part of National Child Protection Week. During the show, a number of characters provided engaging and age-appropriate scenarios to demonstrate the importance of speaking to trusted adults, and understanding the difference between 'fun scary' and feeling unsafe. Incursions like this one are an important part of Keiki's commitment to child safety, empowering children with the knowledge to help keep themselves safe as they grow older.

A big thank you to Constable Care Foundation for visiting us! 💛

Learning life skills, one lunchbox at a time 🍽️

In our Kindy and Pre-Kindy rooms, we offer lunchbox days towards the end of each year where children get to build real skills. 💚

Your child brings their own lunchbox and can choose what goes into it from the healthy foods we provide. They make their own sandwiches, learn to open and close their lunchbox, and enjoy designated mealtimes with their peers. It sounds simple, but it's actually brilliant for building independence and self-help skills they'll carry into school and beyond. 🌟
