Savanna was incredibly brave to the end. She had won her battle with gastric cancer, pursued a Masters in Music Therapy, and was working as a music therapist when her cancer returned. Sadly, she passed away at the age of 38. The Savanna Griechen Fund has been set up so that others can bring the work Savanna would have done into schools for children with special needs, as well as into children's hospitals and hospices.

The Savanna Griechen Fund was established to provide music programs for children with special needs in education-support schools, hospitals and hospices. Savanna Griechen was a student of Micheál's at WAAPA. In recent years, she completed a Masters in Music Therapy while bravely battling gastric cancer. Savanna had a passion for the provision of music therapy to children in need. Sadly, after a number of years in remission, her cancer returned. She passed away in February 2025 at the age of 38. To donate to this project, enter SAVANNA under the 'Preferred School code' on the Donations page.

MIT research shows that music brings life-long benefits.

MIT researchers discovered that teaching music activates both hemispheres of the brain, boosting memory, attention, language skills, and problem-solving. Unlike coding, which mainly develops logical thinking, music combines creativity, emotions, and collaboration, giving children a wider cognitive advantage.

Studies show kids who learn music often outperform peers academically, displaying stronger focus, improved reading skills, and better teamwork. Experts even suggest that starting with music makes it easier for children to learn coding later, since their brains are already trained for complex pattern recognition.

This research highlights how music is more than an art — it’s a powerful tool for building intelligence and shaping well-rounded learners.
