Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

💛 Sometimes the best learning resource is the one you already have at home.

Strong relationships are the foundation for confident, curious learners 💛

Goodstart’s key educator approach ensures every child is known, supported and feels safe - through consistent, nurturing connections with educators and meaningful partnerships with families. These bonds help build wellbeing, resilience and a true sense of belonging from day one.

👀🦷 Supporting Our Children’s Health & Wellbeing! 🌿

Last week, we were pleased to welcome the Mobile Eyes and Dental Foundation to our centre for a special visit.

The children had the opportunity to participate in their routine eye and dental checks in the familiar and comfortable environment of our centre. It was a wonderful experience for the children to become more familiar with these important health checks and understand the importance of looking after their eyes and teeth. 🪥👀✨

We loved seeing the children participate with curiosity and confidence, and it was a great opportunity to support their health and wellbeing as part of our everyday learning.

A big thank you to the Mobile Eyes and Dental Foundation for visiting our centre and supporting our children’s wellbeing! 💛

A Wonderful Preschool Night!

Last week, we had a very successful Preschool Night, bringing our Preschool families and educators together for a special evening.
A huge thank you to all the families who took the time to attend and be part of the evening. Your involvement and engagement mean so much to us and help us build strong partnerships between our centre and families.
Our Preschool team shared information about our Goodstart Preschool program, what children can expect as they transition into Preschool, and how we support children as they prepare for their transition to school.
It was a wonderful opportunity for families to learn more about our program, understand how we support children’s learning and development, ask questions, and connect with our educators.
A special thank you to our dedicated Preschool team for organising the evening and sharing their knowledge and experiences with our families.
Together, we are supporting our children to feel confident, connected and ready for their next big adventure!

As a not‑for‑profit, every dollar we earn is reinvested to improve outcomes – from high‑quality learning and educator development to extra support for children who need it most.
Because when we put children first, the impact goes further 💛

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

🖤💛❤️ Celebrating NAIDOC Week 💚💙🤍
This week, our centre has proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week through engaging experiences that honoured Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Our Preschool children explored bush tucker by collecting natural materials such as Lilly Pilly, Banksia pods, Lomandra, eucalyptus and paperbark. Inspired by their learning, the children planned to make Lilly Pilly jam, which Chef Jenny prepared using a healthy recipe. Each room also enjoyed making Wattleseed Bush Bread with Lemon Myrtle Butter.

Children, families and educators worked together to create our beautiful Sea of Fish display using natural materials and the children's ideas, while our Babies created a collaborative Torres Strait Islander Flag artwork.

It has been wonderful to see everyone learning, creating and celebrating together throughout the week.

Happy NAIDOC Week! 🖤💛❤️ 💚💙🤍

A glimpse into a perfect Mother’s Day celebration this afternoon at Huntley Street, celebrating all the special people who we love and appreciate.
We truly adore our community! ⭐️

The children enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea party, made bracelets, decorated Mother’s Day cards, explored playdough, took photos in the photo booth, and spent precious time playing with their loved ones.

To all the inspiring women in our lives, thank you for supporting us, loving us unconditionally, making us smile, and always being there for us. We cannot thank you enough for everything you do and hope you know just how appreciated you are.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible women — the mums, new mums, mother figures, aunts, grandmas, and friends.

We also hold in our hearts those who may be missing their mums on this day.

Enjoy the day with your loved ones 🌸💐
