The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

50 Years of Deadly 💛🖤❤️

This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate 50 Years of Deadly and the strength, resilience, culture and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our incredible educators have been busy creating authentic, meaningful and developmentally appropriate experiences that invite children to connect, explore and learn through culture, stories, art, music, nature and community.

These beautiful moments don’t happen by accident.. they are created through thoughtful planning, ongoing learning and a genuine commitment to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in everyday practice.

A huge thank you to our amazing educators for the care, creativity and heart they bring to these experiences. Your dedication helps children grow with respect, curiosity and connection. 🌿✨

🎉 Celebrating an incredible milestone!

A huge congratulations to Miss Nicole and Miss Kim on reaching their 15-year milestone with Goodstart! 💙

We are so grateful to have these two dedicated, passionate and caring educators as part of our Goodstart Alexandra Hills family. Over the past 15 years, they have made a lasting impact on the lives of so many children, families and colleagues, and our centre is a better place because of them.

To celebrate this special achievement, we enjoyed a delicious morning tea and proudly presented them with their commemorative certificates, trophies and milestone badges.

Thank you, Miss Nicole and Miss Kim, for your commitment, kindness and the difference you make every single day. We look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you both! 🌟

Help us congratulate these amazing women in the comments below! 👏💙

As part of National Reconciliation Week, our Goodstart Alexandra Hills community came together to create a beautiful Sea of Hearts installation.
Each heart captures the voices of our children, families and educators, sharing what reconciliation means to us. Together, these individual reflections create something powerful…a reminder that reconciliation is built through many voices, perspectives and actions.

As we walk beneath our Sea of Hearts, we are reminded that reconciliation is a journey we walk together. It is about listening, learning, respecting and building meaningful connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories.
Thank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts and reflections to this special project. We are proud to see our community's commitment to reconciliation shining brightly above us.

Today our children enjoyed celebrating Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea with a special lunch tea party 💛🧁🫖

The children had a wonderful time helping to prepare special treats and coming together to enjoy a shared tea party with their friends. Throughout the day, we spoke about kindness, helping others, caring for our community and how small acts can make a big difference.

There were lots of smiles, conversations and delicious food shared as the children enjoyed this meaningful experience together.

A huge thank you to all of our families for your generous donations and support towards this important cause. Your kindness and contributions are truly appreciated and will help make a difference in the lives of others.💛

We’re often asked what being not-for-profit really means for our families.

Simply put, it means that our purpose always comes before profit. Every dollar we make is reinvested back into our centres, to provide children with enriching and safe learning environments.

We understand how important it is for children to be in a place where they feel safe and settled. And when families need to make a change - planned or unexpected - we’re here to help make that transition easier.

We’re here to support families when it matters most – because every child deserves a Goodstart! ✨
