World Mission Sunday: One in Christ, United in Mission 🌍

This World Mission Sunday, October 18, marks 100 years of global support since Pope Pius XI established Mission Sunday in 1926.

This year, Catholic Mission invites us to support the Church in Malawi, Africa. Through St. Peter’s Nyamikuta Primary School, Fr. Matthew Semba is working to build a new local school, provide nutritious student meals, and offer essential learning supplies.

Join Sacred Heart Parish North Albury for a special weekend:

⛪ Saturday, Oct 17 @ 6:00 PM Mass: Christine Costello from Australian Catholic Mission will share a special reflection and video presentation.

⛪ Sunday, Oct 18 @ 9:30 AM Mass: Celebrated by Fr. Matthew Semba himself! Stay afterward for a shared Morning Tea in the Parish Hall.

Let's heed Pope Leo’s centenary call to unite in this work of love. We look forward to seeing our community there.

HSC Music Spotlight: Practical Exams Complete 🎶

Huge congratulations to our HSC Music students who sat their Practical Examinations on Friday, 18th September. 🎸

Our talented musicians showcased their hard work across a range of pathways. While many performed multiple pieces for their practical electives, students who chose a Musicology elective sat a Viva Voce—an interactive, 10-minute oral examination where they present and defend their musical research in a professional interview with external NESA examiners.

With their performances and Viva Voce exams officially wrapped up, our students are now busily preparing for the final hurdle: their written examination on next Wednesday, 14th October.

📚 HSC Holiday Study Sessions at Xavier Catholic College 📚

Our dedicated teachers at Xavier Catholic College have been busy over the school holidays running on-site HSC Study Sessions to support our Year 12 students in their final stretch of preparation.

A variety of key subjects were covered, including Advanced & Standard English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Modern History, Music, Visual Arts, Industrial Technology, and Health & Movement Science.

These targeted revision sessions have provided our students with invaluable exam techniques, targeted practice, and boosted confidence ahead of their final exams, reflecting the unwavering commitment of their teachers taking the time to mentor them during the holidays.

📺 Watch Us on Channel 7 News Tonight!

Today, the team from 7NEWS Border visited our campus to capture the hard work in action. They caught up with some of our Maths students busy hitting the books alongside their teacher, Mr Thomas.

So, be sure to tune in to 7NEWS Border tonight to catch Mr Thomas, along with Year 12ers Maxx and Wil, as they share their approach to tackling the HSC.

Spring enrolments here at Xavier 🐐 🌸

We've added some new enrolments over the holidays. Our new goats, all boys, are settling in nicely and enjoying their mums and the sunshine. They're looking forward to term starting and meeting the co-students!

*Update* - Sadly, our Nellie and one of her triplets, Raphael have since died. Her remaining kids - Mick and Leo - are being bottle feed, cared for beautifully and going strong. Milkshake and her two kid goats, Darcy and Bingley, are thriving here on site.

The Physics of Ferris wheels in Year 7 Science 🎡

Xavier's Year 7 scientists are putting physics into motion! As part of the NSW Stage 4 Science curriculum—specifically exploring forces and energy transformations—students stepped into the shoes of engineers to design and build working Ferris wheels.

This hands-on project gave them a chance to test contact vs. non-contact forces like gravity and friction, experiment with rotational motion, and discover how simple machines convert mechanical energy into motion. By testing structural stability, axles, and symmetry, students aren't just memorizing formulas—they are actively practicing the "working scientifically" skills of predicting, testing, and real-world problem-solving. 🎡✨

Huge congratulations to five of our talented Industrial Technology students whose HSC Major Projects have been nominated for possible inclusion in SHAPE:

⭐Angus
⭐Charlotte
⭐James
⭐Lachlan
⭐Oliver

SHAPE is an annual exhibition featuring a selection of outstanding projects from HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, and Textiles and Design students across New South Wales.

Having one student nominated for an HSC Showcase is an achievement in itself - so having a total of five(!) in one year is a fantastic accomplishment for the students themselves, their teachers, and the strength of Xavier's Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) department.

It's a true testament to the hours and hours of hard work, skill, and creativity these students have poured into their projects.

A massive thank you to the dedication of our staff who guided them through every step of the journey, with special appreciation to Ms Rogan (Timber) and Mr Rogers (Metal) for their unwavering support and expert guidance.

Xavier is very proud of Angus, Charlotte, James, Lachlan, and Oliver for this well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations Mikayla - HSC ENCORE Nomination! 🎤

Congratulations to Mikayla, Class of 2026, who has been nominated for Higher School Certificate (HSC) Encore as a vocalist. Being nominated for ENCORE is an incredible achievement and a testament to her outstanding talent, dedication, and artistic excellence in HSC Music.

A huge congratulations and deep appreciation also go to her dedicated Xavier music teachers - including Anne (pictured) and Garth, KLA Leader for Creative and Performing Arts. Anne’s unwavering dedication, hard work, and expert guidance as one of Mikayla’s music teachers at Xavier has played a pivotal role in mentoring and nurturing Mikayla's talent in reaching this worthy recognition.
