TAFE NSW AMEP Albury – Harmony Day

TAFE NSW Albury celebrated the diversity of their community with a Harmony Day discussion panel, activities and an exhibition.

The theme of ‘Everyone Belongs’ formed the basis of the discussion panel which was moderated by radio presenter Alice Walker from ABC Goulburn-Murray and included panel members from 3 of the local communities, Guru Ghuman (Guru’s Cafeteria, Meraki Kitchen and The Journey Podcast), Amani Kishonge (Fashion Designer and Sewing Teacher) and Poonam Chudal (AMEP student and Art Maker). Bihozagara Ndabagaza from the Red Cross did an amazing job interpreting for the Congolese community.

The panel members shared their stories of settling in Albury and building community through their specialised areas of hospitality, fashion and art. Their stories were heartwarming, illuminating and motivating for everyone.

The discussion panel was followed by a shared morning tea with delicious ‘Harmony Day’ donuts, cakes and fruit.

While enjoying morning tea and a catch up with each other the audience also took part in a variety of activities like drawing each other through a glass panel and potting a succulent to take home (very popular!) and viewed an exhibition piece developed by AMEP students in collaboration with Tracey Jennings a local artist (and TAFE teacher) that celebrated migrant journeys.

The TAFE NSW Albury library was filled with TAFE students from various disciplines, teaching and administration staff, staff from local community organisations and local community members.
