Did you know we have a community library at the Centre? Inside our foyer you will find this special cupboard and when you open the doors you find books that you can take home and read. If anyone has any books that they would like to donate please just place them on one of the shelves

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

During NAIDOC week the children were invited to paint leaves and paper bark. We used their creations to make this tree. Each piece of the tree allowed the children to express themselves with the different colours of the paint and natural materials provided

We have been participating in the Sea of Fish Challenge during NAIDOC week to recognise the significance of fish and the ocean to Torres Strait Islanders. The children and families decorated fish to add to our display.

To support the children's interest in insects we ahve 2 Spiney leaf insects in the Preschool 2 room for the children to interact with.

The Sea of Fish Challenge
We are taking part in the Sea of Fish Challenge. We invite families to take a pack home and create/decorate a fish, then drop it back to the Centre where we will add them to our Sea of Fish Display.
When hundreds and thousands of fish come together they become something much bigger than an art display they become a visual reminder of connection, belonging, culture, identity and comminuity

The children in the Toddler 2 room having been reading the Rainbow Fish book. This lead them into exploring the different sea creatures in the story and their emotions.
