Eligible RVTS registrars may be able to access additional Commonwealth Government support while training toward Fellowship.

Available incentives include:
✓ Salary support for new registrars
✓ Up to 5 days of funded study leave per training year
✓ Up to 20 weeks of parental leave support for eligible primary caregivers
✓ 2 weeks of parental leave support for eligible secondary caregivers

With the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS), doctors working in rural, remote and Aboriginal Medical Service settings can complete ACRRM Fellowship through structured remote supervision and tailored education.

Eligible RVTS registrars will also have access to additional GP Training incentive payments, including salary, study leave and parental leave support.

RVTS helps doctors working in rural, remote and Aboriginal Medical Service settings train toward GP or Rural Generalist Fellowship without leaving their community.

You’ll be supported with dedicated supervision, weekly webinars, residential workshops, clinical teaching visits, cultural mentoring, peer connection and exam preparation.

The program is fully Commonwealth-funded, with no application fee and no relocation required.

Additional GP Training incentives are also available to eligible registrars, including salary, study leave and parental leave support.

On 20 July, our 2026.2 registrars will commence training with RVTS, joining a network of doctors committed to delivering high-quality care in rural, remote and First Nations communities across Australia.

How do we train and retain doctors in Aboriginal Medical Services, while supporting continuity, cultural safety and community connection?

A new paper published in the Australian Journal of Rural Health explores the impact of longer-term, place-based training in rural Aboriginal Medical Services.

The paper highlights how the RVTS model supports GP and Rural Generalist trainees to remain embedded in the same AMS for 3–4 years, helping doctors build trust, understand community needs and provide culturally safe, relationship-based care.

With personalised and comprehensive support, RVTS helps train and retain doctors in rural, remote and First Nations communities — supporting continuity of care and strengthening local healthcare workforces.

The RDAQ Annual Conference 2026 is a chance to pause, reconnect, and share what it really means to practise rural medicine.
