Our Year 11 VET Construction students have been hard at work this term!

Most students have recently returned from their first work placements, with many receiving offers of apprenticeships. A fantastic achievement and a credit to their dedication and enthusiasm.

Back at school, students are learning about basic estimation, measurement and calculations in construction.

To demonstrate these skills, students are constructing a traditional timber sawhorse. This project is widely regarded as a true test of a carpenter’s woodworking and geometry skills, incorporating compound mitre cuts that replicate many of the angles and techniques used in carpentry, particularly in roof construction.

Well done to all students on their excellent progress!

In this edition of SchoolTV - The Power of Sleep
Students juggle extremely busy schedules, with ever-increasing responsibilities at school and at home. Many young people, especially adolescents, are going to bed later and later and are at risk of sleep deprivation. This affects three areas of development: psychological, physiological and psychosocial. All three are essential to a young person's growth, learning ability and overall wellbeing. Sleep is vital to their overall development and is as important as diet and exercise.
Sleep also strengthens the immune system and supports their ability to function properly on a daily basis. Children who do not get enough sleep may show increased levels of aggressive behaviour, reduced attention and lower energy levels. Trying to catch up on sleep on weekends is not the answer and can still contribute to ongoing sleep deprivation.
In this edition, we explore the importance and power of sleep and how sleep deprivation can adversely affect overall health and wellbeing.

🎉 CELEBRATING NATIONAL SKILLS WEEK 2026 🎉
National Skills Week highlights how skills can be life changing — building confidence, creating opportunities, and leading to rewarding careers. At Albury High, our students get hands-on experience through vocational education, training, apprenticeships, and employment pathways.

This week, we’re proud to showcase our Year 11 Hospitality students who recently completed their mandatory work placements at local cafes and restaurants. They gained invaluable practical experience and career-ready skills first hand!

Eisteddfod Success Continues: Congratulations to Michael and Evan who performed exceptionally in the HSC section at the Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod. Michael was awarded the Lodge Belvoir $500 prize for best HSC performance, while Evan was named best woodwind performer of the eisteddfod.

🤽‍♂️🤽‍♀️ AHS WATER POLO STARS SHINE FOR NSWCHS! 🌟

A huge congratulations to Toby Gould and Emma Huckle, who recently represented NSWCHS at the Australian Schools Water Polo Exchange on the Central Coast.

🥈 Toby enjoyed an outstanding tournament, helping the NSWCHS Boys claim silver after a thrilling final against Queensland that went to extra time and penalties. Toby was also named Boys MVP and selected in the prestigious Tournament 7 for the second year in a row. This was Toby’s third year representing NSWCHS — an incredible achievement!

🤽‍♀️ Emma also proudly represented the NSWCHS Girls, marking her second year in the team and another fantastic achievement at this level.

The water polo journey continues for both students during the next school holidays when they compete at the Water Polo Australia National Championships — Toby representing NSW and Emma representing the ACT.

👏 Congratulations Toby and Emma! We are incredibly proud of your dedication, achievements and continued success in the pool.
