πβ¨ Rhymes Without Reason 2026 β¨π
Last week, our Year 12 cohort held their second dress-up day of the year, and they certainly had fun with it! π€©
The theme? Every costume had to be paired with another character that rhymed. The more unexpected the combination, the better! Our Seniors certainly rose to the challenge and embodied clever duos, and other pairings stretched rhymes and wordplay π
Think you can crack their rhymes? ππ

A massive congratulations to our open Boys and open Girls hockey teams who both won the Diocesan Championships today. The Boys captained by Max Elliott are back to back champions with a 1-0 win in the final against Edmund Rice College. The Girls captained by Gemma Cresswell and Caitlyn Mare completed 4 Championships in a row without a single goal being scored against them and a hard fought win in the finals over long time rivals St Mary's.
Both teams represented the best of the Joeys Way and coaches Mr Shelton and Mr Dennelly are so proud of the way they conducted themselves. A big thankyou to the organisers and umpires for a fantastic day of hockey.

β¨ Year 12 Meeting with Bishop Mascord β¨
On Wednesday, our Year 12 cohort had the privilege of meeting with Bishop Brian Mascord for a meaningful and engaging conversation about leadership, faith, and the future.
Accompanied by Mrs Jo Kenny and Mr Arnie Hurdoyal, Bishop Mascord first met with our Year 12 student leaders to discuss their leadership journey and aspirations beyond school. The wider Year 12 cohort then joined the discussion, creating an open forum where students could ask thoughtful questions about the Catholic faith, religion, and the world around them.
It was a valuable opportunity for our students to reflect on their final year at Joeys, deepen their understanding, and engage in respectful and inspiring dialogue. We thank Bishop Mascord for his time, wisdom, and encouragement as our Year 12 students continue their journey as leaders within our community.

π¨πͺ΅ Our Year 10 Skills for Work students have been busy swapping textbooks for trade tools in the workshop!
Recently, students took on the precision challenge of crafting their own custom breadboards, developing practical, industry-relevant woodworking skills from scratch.
From measuring, cutting and sanding timber to a smooth professional finish, to mastering the glue-up process and learning how to use heavy-duty sash clamps for a perfect bond, students showed incredible focus and teamwork throughout the project. πͺπͺ
It has been fantastic to see students collaborate, follow workshop safety procedures, and take genuine pride in creating a functional piece of woodwork they can be proud of.
Well done to all involved! π

π§«π¬ Our Year 12 Biology students have been hard at work completing their Depth Studies, investigating the effectiveness of different substances in inhibiting microbial growth.
Students explored and tested a range of substances including antibiotics, honey, Betadine and even garlic π§ to see how each impacted the growth of microbes. Through hands-on experimentation, students developed their scientific inquiry skills while gaining a deeper understanding of microbiology and the role different treatments can play in fighting infection. π¦

ππ This week, we belatedly celebrated Laudato Siβ, reflecting on our shared responsibility to care for our common home and recognising the positive impact we can have on our local community and the wider world.
Our Joeyβs Enviro-Club took centre stage, sharing exciting initiatives with the student body, including a fundraising bake sale πͺπ§, a photography competition πΈ, and plans for a whole-school clean-up this Friday β»οΈπ§Ή.
Students from every year group also put their environmental knowledge to the test in a fun waste-sorting challenge, correctly identifying which bins different items belong in. Winners received a beeswax food wrap ππ―, a reusable and biodegradable alternative to plastic wrap and foil.
The day was a wonderful reminder that even small actions can make a big difference. Together, we continue to build a more sustainable future and strive to do even better for our environment every day. π±π

This month has been full of exciting opportunities for Careers and Transition Pathways at Joeys! πβ¨
Earlier this month, our Year 10 and Year 12 students attended the Berkeley Careers Expo, connecting with around 100 exhibitors from universities, TAFE, employers and training organisations. Students had the opportunity to network with industry professionals, explore post-school pathways and gain valuable insight into further study, apprenticeships, traineeships and local career opportunities.
Last week, Mr Morley also led a low-tech whole school assembly focused on discovering your passion β your βburning bushβ π₯ Through his presentation, students were encouraged to reflect on purpose, direction and calling as they begin thinking about life beyond school.
Selected students also recently travelled to the UOW Shoalhaven Campus to explore pathways in the Health industry π©Ί Students participated in hands-on clinical rotations across Nursing, Exercise Science and Medicine, while connecting with industry representatives from aged care, disability support and occupational health. The experience provided practical insight into healthcare careers, university pathways and future study opportunities.
Our Indigenous students attended the Bangawarra Cultural and Careers Day, a meaningful program supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through education, culture and wellbeing. Students engaged in cultural learning experiences designed to strengthen connection, motivation and future aspirations.
What a fantastic month of learning, growth and future-focused experiences for our students! π

On Monday our whole school assembly celebrated both National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week. We recognised this year's National Sorry Day Theme, "From Sorry to Action", as we explored how saying sorry is important for acknowledging truth and showing compassion, but acknowledgment alone is not enough. At the core of our gathering was Reconciliation, as we called for our school community to be "All In" - a testament to the 2026 Reconciliation Week Theme. Our SRC created an impactful video, where members of our school community expressed what Reconciliation means to them, and outlined ways that we at St Joseph's can be "All In". Our celebrations were concluded by a powerful performance from five members of our Junior Didgeridoo Group; Hayden A., Blake C., TJ N., Andre C. and Ashton J.
