What a rewarding year for our EcoMarine ambassadors! 🌏🌿♻️🪸🌴🐟
👏 Yesterday, they received a well-deserved certificate at the end-of-year ceremony, and celebrated their achievements with local eco heroes who had a few more tips to share.
• ♻️ Townsville City Council Representatives empowered the students with strategies to keep local waterways healthy and shared expert guidance on how to perfect everyday bin sorting across recycling, rubbish, and composting systems.
• 🐟 OzFish Unlimited - Townsville Chapter Experts highlighted the necessity of water data analysis, showing how gathering data protects aquatic habitats.
• 🪸 CoralWatch taught them practical skills to monitor and assess coral health, directly connecting them to the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef.
During the ceremony, our Ambassadors were also given the opportunity to present what they had accomplished as well as their favourite activities:
"Our first big highlight was attending 🌳 Schools Tree Day. We dived deep into learning about our unique local flora and fauna, and even got to hold real wild animals! We were deeply moved to hear about the profound, ancient connection Traditional Owners have to their surrounding environments. Best of all, we brought back native shrubs to plant on our own school grounds, creating a lasting green legacy.
Next up was the 💚 EcoMarine Tour of Townsville. We went behind the scenes to see exactly how a modern recycling depot operates, proving how simple actions at home can make a massive difference. We also explored Rowes Bay, scanning the coast and looking for native wildlife in their natural habitats.
The hands-on science didn't stop there. The wonderful Ms Kassi visited our school to lead a fantastic 🔎 Citizen Science workshop. She taught us how to search for bugs and collect vital biodiversity data right here on our own school grounds, helping us understand our local ecosystem better than ever.
To top it all off, we put our creative hats on and produced a 🎥 video showcasing everything our school does for the planet. We were absolutely thrilled to be named one of the official finalists!
