Prep-Yr 6 Christ-centred School, Townsville

Riverside Adventist School is an independent Prep to Year 6 learning community delivering real life education for the leaders of tomorrow. Through our Christian values, we're committed to nurture, support and educate our students, guiding them on their path to high school and beyond. Our small, hands-on classes establish a foundation for higher learning, where we combine academic excellence with real life learning.

"HONOURING GOD" - OUR #1 PRIORITY

At Riverside Adventist School , we take time to honour God and to learn to be like Jesus.

It starts in the morning with Worship and Bible reading, continues throughout the day by following (speaking gently, welcoming challenging, encouraging cheerfully, acting responsibly...) and CHAPEL on Thursdays.

Students wishing to deepen their learning and understanding of the Bible can also attend our free 'BIBLE STUDIES' and BAPTISMAL LESSONS'.

Yesterday, we honoured our groundsman for his commitment and all his contributions to the Riverside community.

It was a pleasure to work alongside Mr DJ, and we know that he will continue to do great things, wherever his new career in the army take him.

"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
[Jeremiah 17:7-8]

What an incredible opportunity for our students to have learnt from 2 of the best basketball coaches:

πŸ€ Kyle, NLB1 MainStay Suites Townsville HEAT Assistant Coach.

πŸ€ Steven, Recipient of the ANZAC Round Medal.

Both Kyle and Steven are part of the National Basketball League (NBL)1, a semi-professional basketball league in Australia.

Many thanks to Townsville Basketball Programs and Inclusion Officer Briony for facilitating these weekly sessions. The students thoroughly enjoyed them.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEKYNAH πŸŽˆπŸŽ‰
The French class received a surprise vegan ice cream yesterday, to celebrate Shekynah's birthday.

To finalise the unit on caring for animals, the students worked on their poster on Australian iconic animals, which will be entered into the NAIDOC WEEK colouring competition and judged by a panel of elders.

Title: Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)
By: Hillsong UNITED

Lyrics
You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep my faith will stand
And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours, You are mine
Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now
So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine, oh
And You are mine, oh
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Saviour
I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

TOWARDS A KINDER FUTURE
Our students loved holding a plush animal and giving it cuddles in French this term.

After starting the lessons with personal pray requests for pets that passed, are unwell or recovering from surgery, the students focused on learning the French words of some domesticated and wild animals, and how to show compassion and respect towards them.

And just like the French students who, since 2024, have compulsory lessons on animal welfare from Yr 1, our students learnt to pick up animals gently, to "read" their body language and to care for them.

Our seniors studied texts in French on Dos and Don'ts of pet etiquette - with the help of a bilingual dictionary -, and numbers up to 100,000 to discuss statistics on animals.
They were also introduced briefly to the world of industrial farming, and to meat-free alternatives that are available to minimise animal suffering. They tried a few vegan options, such as 'Chicken Nuggets' and were positively surprised by their taste and texture.
