Opti-MINDS Champions!

Congratulations to our incredible Years 7 and 8 Opti-MINDS team, who took out first place in their division at the regional competition in Maryborough over the weekend!

By winning their category, the team has earned an invitation to compete at the State Competition in Brisbane this October!

Competing in the Science Engineering category, our students were challenged to design and build a device that would address an issue they had identified in society.

The team chose to tackle the housing crisis, developing an innovative concept for “expandable housing” - buildings designed to grow taller as the need for additional housing increases.

Their device needed to visibly grow over a period of time, while the team also had to communicate their concept through a clear, creative and entertaining presentation.

Opti-MINDS is entirely student-led, providing our students with an opportunity to think creatively, challenge themselves and develop valuable teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills.

We are incredibly proud of this group and have loved watching their creativity, ideas and hard work come together. What an amazing achievement!

Supporting Our Sponsor Child, Eve

On Friday, 26 July, our Primary School students proudly raised an incredible $346 through our PJ Day to support our sponsor child, Eve.

During the school holidays, Mr and Mrs Eckel had the wonderful privilege of travelling to Indonesia, where they were able to meet Eve and her family. They visited her home, met her mother and big brother, and even met her cat!

It was a truly special opportunity to share precious moments together as Eve opened the letters and gifts from our students. We were delighted to hear that her favourite gift was a pencil case filled with special items from her friends at school.

We are so grateful to our students and families for their generosity and for helping to make such a meaningful difference in Eve’s life.

Thank you for helping our College community show love, kindness and compassion beyond our own community.

Netball Carnival Success!

Last Saturday, our youngest netballers travelled to Gladstone to compete in a local netball carnival.

The team played five games back-to-back, competing against teams from as far afield as Monto and Calliope. The girls demonstrated excellent teamwork in defence, along with strong movement and effective passing as they worked the ball up the court.

Congratulations to the girls on an outstanding effort, winning all five matches! This fantastic result means they remain undefeated so far this year!

Well done, girls - an incredible achievement!

TEACHING POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN AGNES WATER

Discovery Christian College (DCC) is seeking qualified Secondary Teachers to join its Prep–Year 12 college in Agnes Water, with positions commencing in January 2027.

The College is currently advertising multiple full-time, permanent positions including:

• Secondary Mathematics - ability to teach HPE or Science highly advantageous
• Secondary Physics & Mathematics - including Physics for Years 11 & 12
• Secondary English & Humanities

The DCC Book Week Book Fair has been buzzing with excitement this week!

There are so many wonderful books and fun items available, so be sure to stop by and have a look - you might just find a new favourite!
