Today we said farewell to the lovely Miss Tracie as she embarks on her new journey. We want to say thank you for all of the hard work over the past 5 years and we wish her all the best for the future.
Friday will be her last day so if you have the chance pass on some well wishes when you see her.

🦖 🦕 International Dinosaur Day 🦕 🦖

Today the children engaged in lots of fun experiences to introduce the children to the topic of dinosaurs. We have had lots of interest from the children lately regarding dinosaurs so this was a welcome day to celebrate.

We explored the different types of dinosaurs and how some eat different food to the others. We also explored the different names for dinosaurs, the T-Rex and Triceratops were definitely the favourite today.

Lastly Miss Sharna lead the class through a fun discovery experience where they can hatch their own dinosaurs in some water. We look forward to looking back each day and seeing the changes they go through.

This past Monday afternoon the staff of Little Sparkles renewed their CPR and first aid qualifications at the centre. Thanks to the help at Darren at Hills First Aid Training, the staff have refreshed their knowledge on how to respond in emergency situations. We were even lucky enough to have our past educators Mr Ben, Miss Amber, and Miss Fiona come back to refresh their skills along with the team. This was such an informative night.

Have you seen our flower wall??!!

In April the staff and children took on a task to create a beautiful flower display piece for the entry wall in the Preschool room. The children used recycled Coles bags as a base before painting onto the paper using either a paintbrush, roller or their hands. All of the Little Sparkles children had a turn to paint one of these bags before Miss Kirstin helped paint the black outline. When everything was ready to be hung we put it up on the wall for our Mothers Day afternoon tea along with information and photos of the children engaged in the experience.
We have had some great feedback about our new display. What great work!!

Little Sparkles would like to wish all of the mums in the Sparkles family a belated Happy Mothers Day. Without you we wouldn’t be blessed with caring and educating your littlest loves. We hope you were spoilt rotten over the weekend. Thank you to all of the Mothers, Grandmothers, and Aunties who celebrated with us at our afternoon tea on Friday.

Culture and Cooking 🧑‍🍳

Last Thursday Mr Andrès shared a cooking experience with the children from his home country Colombia. In the outdoor area Mr Andrès brought in some dough to make Arepas; rolling, shaping and squashing the dough using gloved hands.
On Friday Mr Andrès then cooked the Arepas before allowing the children to taste them at afternoon tea. The children remarked that they tasted just like cheese toast! What a great experience.

Why is role play so important?

Role play is a crucial developmental tool that allows children to simulate real-life scenarios, fostering cognitive, social, and emotional growth. It builds empathy, improves communication skills, encourages creativity, and provides a safe space for solving problems.

In the photos below, the Little Twinkles (2-3y) are role playing shop keepers using recycled boxes of food items to buy and sell amongst each other. It was great to see the negotiation between the children.

Today at Little Sparkles we had a visit from the Australian Dental Foundation as part of the ‘My School Dentist’ program. Along with seeing the dentist we spoke about things we can do to look after our teeth which include selecting water to drink and healthy foods to eat.

During our free play time, before seeing the dentist, we found an activity on our interactive whiteboard that taught us how to clean our teeth and tongues effectively. The children really enjoyed cleaning the monsters teeth.

Take a look at some of the photos from our fun day!

DINOSAURS!! 🦕 🦖

Due to the children’s observed interests, throughout March, we extended on these by creating fun programmed activities to engage with.

We found step by step instructions on how to build dinosaurs using our magnetic blocks. We made a T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Diplodocus, and a Pterodactyl by working together and finding the shapes we needed.

Lastly, for craft, we used dinosaurs and their footprints to stomp and walk around the paper. We noted that some dinosaurs made different imprints in the paint causing a in-depth discussion about the other differences the children saw between the dinosaurs. What a fun time!
