Star of the Sea School

On Friday I visited Star of the Sea School to speak with the Year 6s about Parliament and representing our local community.

As someone who grew up here, it’s always so good to talk to local kids about how someone from our area can end up in Parliament.

We spoke about how to contribute, what matters to them and, most importantly, which football teams we all follow.

On Thursday the 21st of May, we held our annual Instrumental Music Night, celebrating the achievements of the many students involved in the instrumental music program at Star of the Sea.

It was a wonderful evening filled with impressive performances, showcasing the students' hard work, dedication, and musical growth. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished.

We are excited to be holding the ICAS 2026 Assessments, giving our students the opportunity to challenge themselves and extend their learning beyond the classroom. Speak with your child's teacher to find out more.

🤖 Cup Stacking & Coding: Year 4 Explores Computational Thinking!
Our Year 4 cohort commenced a new unit of learning with Digital Technologies last week. 💻 Students participated in an "unplugged" robot activity—learning the fundamentals of programming completely away from screens!

Working in teams, students took on the roles of programmers and robots. The programmers had to give precise, step-by-step instructions to their robots on exactly how to build a specific stack of paper cups. Afterwards, we recorded our programs using words or symbols such as arrows and discussed what additional commands would have been helpful for this task.

This hands-on challenge got students thinking about how computers process instructions. Our Year 4s quickly discovered that:
* Clarity is key! A robot only does exactly what the code tells it to do.
* Mistakes are just part of the process.

Our students demonstrated wonderful teamwork, communication, and encouragement. It was wonderful to see so much problem-solving, critical thinking, and joy in the classroom as our Year 4 students brought these abstract concepts to life. We are so proud of their curiosity and determination!

From joining schools across Australia for National Simultaneous Storytime to welcoming the return of our much-loved Book Fair, our library has been buzzing with excitement, imagination, and a love of reading.
It has been a joy to see students discovering new books, sharing recommendations, and embracing the magic of stories.
