Mabo became a household name when, in 1992, the High Court of Australia overturned the doctrine of terra nullius – the theory that nobody inhabited Australia when the British arrived in 1788. This Court decision gave rise to the Mabo Act and the doctrine of Native Title in relation to land ownership.

Hi, I’m in need of some info, hopefully you have some ideas. I need to find some funding/grant for a very vulnerable family (a lot families actually) that don’t have access to internet or a modem (or a device for some) for their child to do online schooling... in this case a laptop can be loaned but no internet access... let me know if you have ideas!

Congratulations to teacher Yamurna Oldfield, the new assistant principal at Yuendumu.
“I want to show that Yapa can do anything and that education is the key,” Ms Oldfield said. “We want our kids to have a good education so they can get good jobs in the future.”
Ms Oldfield has worked at the school for decades and completed a Diploma of Education in 1997. A founding member of the Warlpiri Education and Training Trust, she also worked with our community development program for the past 15 years and has been a tireless advocate for bilingual and bicultural education. Yuendumu’s school is fortunate to have such a strong leader.

Today, 1 March, is Zero Discrimination Day.

Ending discrimination requires commitment and participation by everyone. We need to raise awareness of the issue and challenge our own behaviours and expressions of racial discrimination, particularly subtle racism. We also need to help kids identify discrimination and provide techniques for stopping it.
