Recognising, knowing and naming letters is an important skill for children to learn as they explore emerging literacy in the year leading up to school. Having these key understandings helps support a smooth transition into the classroom, when everything else is new, literacy is not.
As a part of our 4 year old Preschool curriculum, literacy concepts is a big part of our children's every day, introducing them to letters, letter sounds and letter formation in written form.

5.2 Children engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from these texts.

Last night we held our Preschool Information Night with our special guest from the Office of Early Childhood Development.
The teachers and educators shared their goals for each learning space, how their room runs, what learning looks like in our 3 and 4 year old Preschool environments and the benefits of joining our Flying Start partnered Preschool Programs.
Families had the opportunity to see the rooms, check out some examples of the experiences they offer and ask any questions they had.
Remember, you don’t need to attend Kindergarten anywhere else, we have Bachelor qualified Teachers and experienced educators who can provide an amazing curriculum to get your little one ready for school!

Our Nursery 1 babies are exploring dramatic play in the form of hospitals and doctors.
Our wonderful Nursery educators have set up an inviting space for the children to explore with the baby dolls, bandages, thermometers, stethoscopes and doctors bags.
This experience supports the children with their emerging exploration of identities and imagination skills.
We can’t wait to see what this space becomes next!

Don’t forget, we have our Preschool Open Night this coming Monday the 25th of May.
Whether you’re an exisiting family or looking to join our wonderful Old Reynella community, come and take a look at all things Flying Start partnered 3 and 4 year old Preschool here at Goodstart Old Reynella!
The rooms will be set up and our amazing Teachers and Educators will be ready to meet you and answer any questions you have from 5pm until 6.30pm.

Join our Preschool Teachers and Educators while they showcase and share our amazing Flying Start partnered 3 year old and 4 year old Preschool programs and learning environments.
We will have our fantastic Office of Early Childhood Development (OECD) Senior Implementation Partner joining us to answer any and all Flying Start questions. This is a great opportunity for our families who are looking at 3 year old and 4 year old preschool for 2027 and beyond, as well as any new families who might be interested in joining our programs.

We’re partnering with Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) to explore new Parent and Caregiver Information Sessions at selected Goodstart centres - and we’d love your input! 💛
These sessions are designed to support families with helpful information, connections to services and practical advice on topics that matter most to you.

Thank you for helping us create meaningful support opportunities for families in our community.
Our Reception Ready children got in touch with the natural environment. One of our Diploma students created a learning opportunity for the children to explore how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples use natural materials from within their environment to create jewellery, decorations and tools. We adapted this to further support their learning by creating some head crowns and necklaces using leaves we found within our over 2’s yard. The children spent the rest of their day showing off their creations!

📣It is that time of the month again where we are coming up to our monthly CaFHS nurse visit.
There is still 2 available appointment times for you to attend with your child on Monday the 25th of May. Remember they don't need to be booked into care on this date to be able to access the CaFHS appointments.
CaFHS recommend getting check ups at the ages:
- 6/9 months
- 12 months
- 18 months
- 4 years
However more frequent check ups are more than welcome, especially if you have any questions regarding your child's health or development.
