DID YOU KNOW….
THE HUMAN CELL.

Just look at this marvelous structure.!! Its more betterer than a nuclear powerhouse, heaps more amazing than the far reaches of space, this humble little cell is packed with so many awesome life-given structures.
“Cells of humans typically have a mass 400,000 times larger than the mass of a single mycoplasma bacterium, but even human cells are only about 20 μm across. It would require a sheet of about 10,000 human cells to cover the head of a pin, and each human organism is composed of more than 30,000,000,000,000 cells.” Quote
The main organelles are as follows : cell membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, nucleus, mitochondria, perioxisomes, microfilaments and microtubules
Just imagine…. The cells are a ONE WALLED CELL which is semi-permeable, so that its nutrients can enter the cell wall to nourish it, and it, because it is active, is producing waste, which it is excreting through the wall of the cell into the space called the interstitial space which will ultimately lead to the Lymphatic system where the different organs deal with the waste products and then excreted from the body.

DID YOU KNOW….
Did uno that the NERVE, ARTERY, and the Vein travel together in the body, especially in the places we are looking for entry into the body?
Well yes…….. so, you see next time you open up to find a vessel, tell me what you see… after 8 years of doing autopsies, you see EVERYTHING, and I mean everything!! You learn to appreciate where the tendons adhere to, how compact the organs are arranged in the body, how the joints more freely on one another, how the spine works, as it gets down to the lumbar region and curves forward to attach itself to the pelvis and then curves backwards to accommodate the re**um, the bladder, the uterus, and the prostate. It’s like a cocoon, all neatly arranged. And did you know that the Diaphragm is a muscle of perhaps 2-3mm thick, and it’s the muscle that allows to inhale and exhale, because… as we breathe IN,
it extends downward, thus expanding the lungs, R & L, to fill us with Oxygen so the exchanges of gases in the lungs so the red blood cells can continue their marvelous journey around our body to keep us alive, and then exhale those CO2 gases out of the body……
So with the Brachial, Artery, vein, & Nerve. The Carotid, what do you see? And so with the Popliteal, they give us a guiding light for us to find the vessels we need.. woohoo!

This week I received my IPAMS certificate so I've placed it into a frame and will place it with all my other certs and qualifications that I have earned and received over the years. For those who are thinking of joining IPAMS, when you purchase my embalming book " My take on what to do" you will receive a discount for joining IPAMS. Pretty good deal to say the least. I've spoken to the many embalmers, students from around the world and they are saying, common sense approach to how we do our job, sadly , it's the wannabes who think they know everything that needs to be known. I'm from the Olde school, something that's called INTEGRITY!!! doing our jobs in the Mortuary as if the family are standing there beside me and caring for their loved one. xie xie ni.

RighteO.... today I'm going to talk about "Having visible means of Support"

DID YOU KNOW….
The bones of the body, THE SKELETON

Starting off with the human skeleton, this is made up of 206 bones in adults, but we start with 270 bones when we are born at birth, and these will fuse as we grow. [ I was taught when I did my nursing back in ’77, THAT!!! Sometimes there are 207! You say, how come. Well, it’s like this, there is usually 5 bones in the coccyx but sometimes there are 6. These anomalies occur in our bodies because of genetic abnormalities that ‘just happen’ it can be the same as those whose organs are reversed in the trunk. Haven’t you experienced those moments when you do something and think, what’s wrong here and then the penny dropped, you try a different tact! That is what happens in the human body.
If you have an instance that has happened to you, please share it because this has happened to me many times. An instance was when I inserted the trocar to the direction of the heart and NOTHING!! Mmmm, I thought, OK, just move the tip a little to the right, whamo! The heart wasn’t in the position I thought it was…. Another one is have you found two [2] carotids, one large and one smaller, apparently is more common than you think, and this was mentioned by a heart specialist. Please share your thoughts………
Q. what is the bone/cartilage at the end of the rib cage?
Q. How many floating ribs do we have, and what number are they ?
Q. what is the space called for articulation of the Humorous?
Q. What is the name of the bone structure that we call the Pelvis?
Q. what is the first two bones called at the head of the spine in the cervical bones?

DID YOU KNOW….

Lets talk about the SPLEEN…
This organ has a lot to do in our body, Yes.. we can live without it, but it means that you do not have the same protection from all the attacks that come in your system, like bacteria’s, infections. Stores blood. So, what else can it do….. Filters blood by removing cellular waste and getting rid of old or damaged blood cells, Makes white blood cells and antibodies that help you fight infection, Maintains the levels of fluid in your body, Produces antibodies that protect you against infection.

What this incredible organ does in your body is amazing and look at ALL the things that it does, Fantastic!!
Filtering old or unwanted cells from the blood, Storing red blood cells and platelets, Metabolizing and recycling iron, Preventing infection, Making white blood cells and antibodies that help you fight infection, Maintaining the levels of fluid in your body, Holding a reserve of red blood cells and immune cells which the body can use in case of emergencies, Removing bacteria, Filtering blood of damaged cells, cellular debris, and pathogens such as bacteria and viruses, Breaking down waste products of red blood cells, Housing and aiding in the maturation of immune system cells called lymphocytes.
To help keep your spleen healthy, your lymphatic system, and the immune system working properly, you should drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight, not just beer and skittles. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables and by staying healthy, you’ll help your immune system protect YOU from many infections and illness’s.

Here's another picture of a CVP line [Central Veinous Pressure] where you can use Feature Builder to occulude the vessel before withdrawing it from the body.

DID YOU KNOW….

I.V. sites, anything that has a needle that’s….
IN THE FLESH/SKIN.
Take for instance, everybody has trouble with IV sites. We are taught to not take them out until the embalm is finished, right. True. But when one does, the site leaks and leaks, and eventho we inject some sort of feature builder or a product into the injection point. Well!! I found a perfect way to stop the leak. Draw up a feature builder, [FB] any product that will solidify, into a 10ml syringe, inject the FB into the jelco. Because the Jelco is still in the vessel, place an index finger over the jelco, which is still in place, wait for about 5 – 7 seconds, this will give the FB time to mix with the fluid that is in the vessel, now withdraw the jelco with your index finger over the site, and you will find it will not leak. This is also good for a CVP line, but you will need more of the feature builder because of the larger tubing inserted into the vein. Another helpful hint IS to look out for arterial canulars left in after any procedures that come into your mortuary. YOU can utilize these entry points to carryout a TP, not a full embalm.
For more helpful hints and information, send an email to [email protected] and I’ll be able to assist you with a book I’ve published on ‘Embalming, what does it entail’ It has lots of helpful tips on a pleather of subjects......
