Elevating Learning Empowering Parents Welcome to BOOST Literacy’s page. Facebook or Skype based assistance is also an option. Early intervention is key.
BOOST Literacy assists children with reading, spelling and phonological difficulties, with or without a diagnosis of dyslexia. BOOST Literacy is committed to ensuring that each child has the opportunity to reach their academic potential through the development of strong core skills in literacy. These skills lead to competence in reading, spelling and writing, resulting in BOOSTED self esteem and a
BOOSTED sense of hope in a positive future. BOOST Literacy offers one to one, small group and partner tutoring as well as parent information sessions. BOOST Literacy develops partnerships with home schooling parents, teachers in schools, kindergartens and Early Learning Centres, parents in playgroups and mum’s groups. BOOST Literacy uses the multisensory Speech Sound Pics SSP approach which was developed by Read Australia (readaustralia.com) for dyslexic learners and those who learn differently. This approach has at its core, a speech to print progression ensuring Phonemic Awareness skills are robust. Phonemic Awareness is vital to literacy success. The SSP approach explicitly, directly and systematically teaches the alphabetic code for spelling along with reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension. SSP@BOOST Literacy allows children to develop independence through mastery of the SSP spelling strategy. Research tells us that 35% of children are born with inefficient wiring for the English alphabetic code. Up to 20% may ultimately be diagnosed as dyslexic unless they receive literacy instruction that ensures efficient, strong pathways are created. SSP@BOOST Literacy creates efficient brain wiring for the English alphabetic code. This leaves children free to read and write for pleasure and allows them to be engaged in stimulating lifelong learning. In the last 15 years research has revealed that struggling readers have a deficit of skill, not a developmental lag or delay. http://www.aft.org/periodical/american-educator/fall-2004/waiting-rarely-works-late-boomers-usually-just-wilt . This same research assures us that this skill deficit can be largely erased with appropriate interventions such as SSP. BOOST Literacy is passionate about empowering parents through education and by providing early intervention for children whenever possible. BOOST Literacy is passionate about elevating learning and empowering parents through partnership. I look forward to working in partnership with you to BOOST the literacy and academic competence of your child. A BOOST is just a PM away! Ali Watson
