🔤✨ Building Words Before Writing

In a Montessori-inspired environment, writing often comes before reading.

At Westcare Early Learning, children use the Moveable Alphabet to build words using the sounds they know, allowing them to express their thoughts and ideas long before they are ready to write with a pencil.

By matching letter sounds to symbols, children begin to explore the foundations of language in a hands-on and meaningful way. The colour-coded letters also help children naturally distinguish between vowels and consonants, supporting their growing understanding of how words are formed.

This tactile approach to learning makes language accessible, engaging, and empowering, fostering confidence as children discover that they can communicate their ideas independently.

At Westcare Early Learning, children are encouraged to take an active role in caring for their environment. With child-sized brooms always within reach, they can independently respond when they notice a need, choosing to sweep because they want to contribute to their community.

There is purpose in the task, a clear beginning and end, and a visible result that children can take pride in. Through these everyday experiences, children develop concentration, independence, responsibility, and confidence in their own abilities.

More than just keeping our spaces tidy, these moments foster a genuine sense of belonging as children learn that their contributions matter and that they are valued members of our community. 💚

🌱 Caring for Our Community Garden 🌱

At Westcare Early Learning, care for the environment is an important part of our Montessori-inspired approach.

One of the ways our children put this into practice is by helping to care for our community garden. Watering the plants provides a real and meaningful responsibility, allowing children to actively contribute to the wellbeing of their environment.

Through this simple daily task, children develop independence, responsibility, and a sense of pride as they watch the garden grow and thrive. These hands-on experiences help foster a deeper connection to nature while nurturing a strong sense of belonging within our learning community.

We love seeing our children take ownership of their surroundings and experience the joy that comes from caring for something beyond themselves. 💚🌿

🧡Pyjama Week is in full swing at Westcare ELC! 🧡

We are all having so much fun wearing our pyjamas this week! From fluffy slippers to colourful PJs, it’s been wonderful seeing all the children and educators embracing the fun while creating lots of smiles and special memories together. 💚

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful families and Educators for getting involved and helping make this week so special. We love seeing everyone’s amazing pyjamas and can’t wait for more fun over the rest of the week! 🌟

🌙 Pyjama Week is here! 💤

From Monday 20th July to Friday 24th July, we’re getting cosy at Westcare Early Learning Centre!

We invite all children to wear their favourite pyjamas, as we come together to support The Pyjama Foundation and help raise funds for children living in foster care. 💙

Families are welcome to make a gold coin donation or donate online. Every contribution helps provide educational support and opportunities for children who need it most.

👕 Please remember:
🌛 Wear comfortable pyjamas suitable for active play
🌛 Dress for the weather
🌛 Enclosed shoes must be worn for safe outdoor play

This week at Westcare ELC, our children have been celebrating NAIDOC Week through meaningful play and learning. From creating the Aboriginal Flag with loose parts to sensory experiences and storytelling, the children have been exploring and learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in fun and respectful ways.
