CONNECTING WITH COUNTRY || Our Year 9 Kaurna students spent Tuesday morning learning from Kaurna and Ngarrindjeri man Bryce Cawte, creating their own Yuku (coolamons) from Karra (Redgum). 🌿

As Bryce shared his knowledge of traditional woodworking practices and the cultural significance behind each step, students gained hands-on skills while deepening their understanding of Kaurna culture and connection to Country.

"I loved it when Bryce was explaining the different tools he brought in to show us. I learnt how each of the tools was created and what their functions were." said Wolf.

Henri also enjoyed learning "the process of making the Yuku from start to finish."

A heartfelt thank you to Bryce for sharing his time, knowledge and culture with our students.

BRAVE THE SHAVE || 🪒Last Friday, our Middle and Senior School campuses came together to support the Leukaemia Foundation through the World’s Greatest Shave - and what a day it was!

Putting their hair (and, in some cases, their beards!) on the line were Acting Principal Mr Zielinski, Head of Middle School Mr Pascale, Mr Bateman, Mr Lodge, Mr Heynen, Mr Clark, Mr Kenneally, Ms Woods, Dr Miller, Mr Ward and Ms Sidwell – and what a brave bunch they were! For some of our staff, it was even the first time their children had seen them without their signature beards! 😲

More than 20 students also got involved, cutting or shaving their hair across a range of lengths, while students across both campuses cheered on the participants. The Middle School crowd was particularly enthusiastic, with almost the entire campus turning out to watch Mr Pascale, Mr Heynen, Mr Ward and Ms Sidwell take part.

And the fundraising results have been just as impressive! After kicking things off with a sausage sizzle last term, our community has smashed the $10,000 goal, raising more than $25,000 so far! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, participated, cheered from the sidelines and helped make the day such a memorable one. Your support will help provide vital services for people living with blood cancer and their families, as well as support ongoing research. 💙💚💛

REFRAMING PATHWAYS || 🛠Pembroke has long offered a broad and inclusive definition of success, and the expansion of our School-Based Apprenticeship (SBA) Program represents a significant step in strengthening this commitment.

At its core, the SBA Program reflects a simple but powerful principle: diverse learners require diverse opportunities. Rather than viewing VET as an alternative to academic success, Pembroke is embedding it as a parallel and equally valid pathway.

STEM SUCCESS || 🔬As we settle into Term 3, we’re catching up on some of the many ways our students have been learning, challenging themselves and achieving so far this year.

At the end of last term, 34 Year 9 and 10 students represented Pembroke at the South Australian regional stage of the Science and Engineering Challenge, tackling a series of hands-on challenges that put their problem-solving, creativity and teamwork to the test. 🚀

Their collaborative efforts saw them take out first place on the day, securing a place in the State Final later this term! 🏆Congratulations to all students on this outstanding achievement - we’ll be cheering you on in the next challenge! 👏

QUEST PART 2 || Following an unforgettable time in Cambodia 🇰🇭 on the first leg of their Quest trip, our young adventurers headed east, crossing the border into Vietnam. 🇻🇳

Arriving in Vietnam’s vibrant capital, Hanoi, students explored the Maison Centrale Prison, the Temple of Literature and the Presidential Palace.🕌 They then hiked through the Sapa region, experiencing a range of cultural activities, including cooking classes and dancing.👩🏼‍🍳 The adventure concluded with a relaxing overnight cruise through magnificent Ha Long Bay, complete with kayaking and swimming.🛶🌿

Over the course of this inaugural Quest expedition, so much was achieved. Students developed a deeper understanding of these layered and enduring cultures. They made a real, lifelong difference for a family. They exercised resilience and independence. They pushed themselves physically and mentally. They cultivated gratitude and perspective. And they built stronger bonds with their peers. 💙💚💛

An unforgettable journey, and one that will stay with them for years to come. ✨

100 DAYS OF RECEPTION || 💯 Today marks a joyful milestone in our Junior School – 100 Days of Reception! ⭐️ To celebrate 100 days of learning, our Reception students engaged in a range of fun activities to showcase their growing skills. They used their imaginations and writing skills to detail 100 things they wish they had, and showed off their counting skills by counting 100 beads to make a colourful chain. 👏

This special occasion is more than just a number – it shows how far our young learners have come. With over half of their first school year behind them, we’re so proud of their progress and can’t wait to see what they accomplish in the next 100 days! 💙💚💛
