As part of our hands on learning the Tarnta rooms curriculum has been focusing on designing and replanting our front verge. With a grant from the Burnside council we were able to use some money on purchasing plants, fresh soil and mulch. Today our ideas and planning culminated in a newly planted verge. With the help from Dave, our Gardner, Helen (Corina's Mum), Corina and some of the Tarnta room children, butterfly attracting, ground cover, Indigenous species were added.

📢 We have some exciting news for our families and children.🎊
We’re officially a Flying Start partner service!!
We’re excited to be partnering with the South Australian government to deliver Flying Start, a 3-year-old preschool program designed to strengthen the quality and equity of early learning for all children.
Focused on age-appropriate, play-based learning the program will be led by our qualified early childhood teacher, Jacinta.
The program follows the Early Years Learning Framework and is designed to strengthen children’s development.
As a partner service, we have access to more support and training for our teachers and educators, and extra help for the children and families where it’s needed most.
You can learn more about the program by picking up a detailed Flying Start Family Guide from our centre or contacting the office.
Term 3, 2026 enrolments are now open.
For more information, speak with our centre team.

At RPCC we are continually reviewing and reflecting on every aspect of Service operations. This importantly involves the review of the products we use for the little ones in our care.
We recently have been trialling new toddler bed and cot sheets in the Kuula room through an Australian owned company, JAM BERRY KIDS. The aim is to find better fitting sheets that align with safe sleep guidelines. As we know, all children roll around like baby crocodiles as they sleep, however we dont want their sheets to do the same.
You may want to take a look at their products for your Service 😊

The Tarnta room's current interest is the life cycle of a butterfly. If you've been following along you would have noticed the children learning about monarch butterflies.
During this exploration, we have recently discovered that a unique and rare species of butterfly called the Chequered Copper Butterfly, is found in the grassland area at Pakapakanthi (our park!). There is a plant called a Native Sorrel that attracts this species. On Wednesday we visited that area for Reconciliation week, as the Tarnta room focuses on connection to land and country.
However, on our way back, we were excited to run into Gerry, who was very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge on what he knows about the butterfly. He was in the area to have a chat to the Mayor in hopes of raising awareness to protect the species.
Since then, the children have viewed photos of the life cycle of the Checkered Copper Butterfly through a video shared by Gerry. This emergent theme has helped extend on their interest which we are so keen to explore!
Thank you so much Gerry for the impromptu talk! We feel so lucky to have you share the info with us :)

Intentional learning is planned and ready as the Kuula room explore the oceanic world for Reconciliation Week 2026.
Deriving provocations from this year's poster by Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey, his connection with the ocean and combining this with the children's and educators love of the natural world, we go on a journey underwater.
From the reefs of the Torres Strait Islands to the wavy seas of Kaurna land, we journey through our connection with country and each other.
In the under 2 room reconciliation looks like building knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people and their culture, in particular how we can continue to care for country. This starts by learning about inhabitants, respecting this and each other.
(Stories representing learning will be added throughout the week)

World Bee day (Australia) 2026
Children in the Kuula room are fascinated by nature. The birds, insect life, plants and weather patterns. To them it is new, exciting and wonderful.
We often sit back and observe the hive of activity in the yard. With our daisy bush flowering, we notice the bees coming to collect pollen from the flowers. This has always provided a spontaneous discussion about what the bees are doing and how they use the pollen. We know that the children are young (under 2 years of age) and may not always grasp the concept of pollination, however as they grow and their cognitive understanding advances, the stories we tell will become knowledge, the stories become science.
So daily we wait for the bees, we observe, we watch and teach the importance of having bees in our environment for food security, biodiversity and ecosystem health. Without bees we are at risk. World bee day creates this awareness and highlights the magnificence of these insects and we are here for it.
(A huge shoutout to Maddy who made the World Bee day provocations)

Recently, we've had teepees in the Tarnta and Kuula room given to us to borrow by Ange (Jacinta's Aunty) through Little Teepee Dreams ✨
These teepees are perfect for sleepovers, parties and birthdays, but they were also perfect for our space in childcare as children seek enclosure and personal space. It has been a great extension to calm down their bodies and support their well-being and expand on their interest in cubby houses and fort making ⛺
We have had to move them throughout the weeks to adapt to the weather conditions, but they have been consistently used by our children for a multitude of purposes. They've been a bit of a stand out feature in the rooms!
We thank Ange SO much for letting us borrow them, they have loved having them here!
If you're ever in need of a way to entertain your kids for an event, this is perfect - Rose Park childcare approved! ✔️

As you are aware Mothers day is approaching on the weekend. We understand that families at our Service (and in the wider community) are diverse and come in various contexts and structures.
Every year we have chosen to honour this by giving a gift to children's special people, as we embed the Service values of inclusion in everyday practice.
Families we invite you to please help yourself to a cookie (small amount of gluten free options available) that are available in your child's room.
