π΄ Stop before you spray! π§΄π€
Did you know that spray-on sunscreen is one of the quickest ways to ruin your boatβs interior? It doesnβt just protect you; the chemicals react with marine vinyl and gelcoats, leaving stubborn, slippery stains and causing premature cracking. It's like applying permanent marker to your seats.
β The Golden Rules:
β
Apply all spray sunscreens on the jetty before you step on board.
β
If you must reapply while out, use old-school lotion or cream.
β
Never spray into the wind on a moving vessel (it just stains the deck/windshield/people behind you).

Bananas π - you just can't trust them π
Many seasoned fishers believe bringing a banana on a boat is the ultimate bad luck. π«π
The legend goes back to the 1700s, when ships carrying bananas had to sail so fast (to prevent the fruit from rotting) that the crew never had time to catch fish. Others say the fermenting fruit released gases that were dangerous to the crew or that they harbored venomous spiders.

Your wash, your responsibility. π€π¨
Did you know you can be held legally liable for any damage or injury caused by your wake? Whether itβs rocking a boat at a pontoon, eroding a riverbank, or knocking a kayaker off balance, "I wasn't speeding" is not a legal defence.
β The Facts:
β
Skippers have a "General Safety Obligation" to operate safely. Navigating in a way that causes damaging wash is an offence, and you can be held financially liable for any damage caused.
β
Most boats create the most wash when "half on the plane" (ploughing). You actually create less wash by either dropping to a slow idle or getting fully up on the plane quickly.
The Golden Rule: Just look behind you! If your wake is breaking on the shore or making other boats toss and turn, youβre going too fast.

Ready for the Easter long weekend on the water? π€π°
Whether youβre hitting the River Murray or launching along the coastline, a little prep goes a long way during the holiday rush.
β
Lifejackets: Double-check yours are in good nik (and actually inflate)
β
Fuel & battery: Most holiday breakdowns are preventable - do a quick check before you hit the ramp.
β
Weather watch: Easter weather can shift quickly; keep the BOM marine forecast handy.
β
Beat the rush: Plan to launch early at popular spots like North Haven or O'Sullivan Beach to avoid the crowds.
And of course, don't forget your licence!

It's a smart idea to use the rule of thirds when fuelling up for a trip.
1οΈβ£/3οΈβ£ of your fuel to reach your destination
1οΈβ£/3οΈβ£ to return from your destination
1οΈβ£/3οΈβ£ for reserve
Whilst you might need to sell a kidney to fill the tank at the moment, at least you won't be stranded.
