Antibiotics save lives - but antimicrobial resistance is a growing threat.
Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents such as antibiotics.
Working at TQEH's Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research, Dr Katharina Richter conducts research on defeating antibiotic-resistant bacteria, including:
🔬the growing problem of antibiotic resistant "superbugs"
🔬why antibiotics don’t work against some bacteria
🔬how non-antibiotic treatments can be used to defeat superbugs.

This lady wants to stop you from having a second heart attack. ✋❤️
Thanks to your donations to Australian Heart Research, Dr Clementine Labrosciano, from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, is leading a team of Adelaide researchers to develop a model that will better identify patients at risk of readmission.
1 in 5 people who suffer a heart attack are readmitted within 30 days of being discharged. Therefore, research to prevent this is a must!

An Australian First! 🙌
It has just been announced that from 8 August, SA women will be the first in Australia to be informed of their individual breast density at their BreastScreen SA mammograms!
A recent study found women had a strong preference to be informed as part of their regular screening. Dense breasts are common and normal, however, they do increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer.
BreastScreen SA conducted their own study, which is what led to the change. Assoc Prof Wendy Ingman with The Hospital Research Foundation Group has been supporting the idea with her own research in the area. We know lives will be saved because of this! 💝
