Updated and sharing again for 2026!
Tarnia x
Hello everyone,
My name is Tarnia Riggs. Back in 2015, I stepped into the role of coordinator and administrator for this page, representing the long and quietly remarkable legacy of Muirden Senior College.
Muirden College was established by William Muirden in July 1900. That places the school well over a century old now — generations of students passing through those front doors on King William Street, each with their own stories, friendships, and turning points.
When I first took on the page in 2015, it had 172 followers. Over the years, it has grown steadily, quietly, and organically:
May 2015: 172
April 2016: 286
March 2018: 315
September 2020: 331
November 2022: 334
January 2026: 355
Not explosive growth — but meaningful, and reflective of a community that reconnects when the timing feels right.
Muirden College was unique in its era and, in many ways, still is. Situated in the CBD, it was known for its small class sizes and for being the only co-educational, non-religious private school of its time. It was also ahead of the curve academically — offering practical, real-world business subjects such as business studies, Pitman script, shorthand, and typing, rather than the more traditional home economics or technical studies. That forward-thinking approach shaped many independent, capable graduates.
If you’re a former student, you’re warmly encouraged to join and quietly help build the community by sharing the page with others who once attended. There’s no pressure to participate — but if you feel inclined, you’re welcome to introduce yourself, share which years you were at the college, reconnect with old friends, or post a memory from your time there.
And if you happen to have any photos — from then or now — please feel free to share them. Seeing faces and moments from different decades adds a special layer to this space. I’m still searching for my own.
Thank you for being part of the Muirden story.
Love and light
Tarnia 🙂
