I’ve seen it so many times. Someone arrives carrying a lot. Thoughts, tension, uncertainty. Without needing to say anything, the horse reflects it back. Not in a confronting way, but in a way that gently asks you to slow down and come back to yourself.

That’s what this work really is.

It’s not about getting it right or learning how to do something. It’s about noticing what’s actually there and allowing yourself to be with it. The horses don’t need you to be perfect. They respond to honesty, presence, and willingness.

This April 10 to 12, we’ll be holding space for this kind of experience in Fullerton Cove. A small group, working closely with the herd, with time to step out of the noise and reconnect with yourself in a real way.

There is a moment that happens for many students inside EPA that is very quiet.

It usually isn’t the first day.

Or even the first few weeks.

It happens somewhere in the middle of learning.

A student enters the space with the horse…

and instead of immediately thinking about what to do next,
they pause.

They notice their breathing.

They feel their feet on the ground.

They become aware of the small tension they didn’t realize they were carrying.

And the horse notices too.

Sometimes the horse simply turns its head.

Sometimes it steps closer.

Sometimes it exhales and softens beside them.

Nothing dramatic.

Yet something important has shifted.

The student begins to realize that this work is not only about understanding horses.'

It is about understanding the quality of presence we bring into the relationship.

Inside EPA, this is one of the deeper lessons that slowly unfolds.

Not through instruction alone,
but through the experience of standing with a horse
and discovering what changes when we become just a little more present than we were before.

Sometimes the horses that come into our lives carry more meaning than we could ever plan.

Little Masey came to me with a story that still gives me goosebumps.

She was born on the 4th of October - the exact same day as my late dog, Mason. Mason had been by my side for 17 years, and losing him left a quiet space in my heart that I hadn’t expected to feel so deeply.

Before I even knew this little foal existed, I had already decided that if a horse ever came into my life around that time, I would name her Masey, in honour of Mason.

Then something incredible happened.

When I began speaking with the previous owner of the mare and foal, I discovered that they had already been calling her Macy.

They had no idea about Mason.

They had no idea about the name I had planned.

Yet somehow… the name was already there.

In that moment it felt like the universe had quietly whispered “yes”.

A gentle reminder that sometimes the connections we feel with animals run far deeper than coincidence.

And that some souls simply find their way to each other🐴

It’s moments like these that remind me why we continue creating spaces where people can experience the quiet wisdom of horses for themselves.

This April 10–12, we’ll be gathering at Fullerton Cove for a 3-Day Reclaiming Self Retreat - a small, intimate space to slow down, reconnect, and spend time beside the herd.
