That Time I Found a Dresser Full of Snacks In Grenada - Caribbean MD Guy 29/04/2019

Was expecting to find some books and things, not and entire dresser full of delicious . I'm okay with this outcome

That Time I Found a Dresser Full of Snacks In Grenada - Caribbean MD Guy One of our neighbors (a house of med students like ours, haha) was leaving the island and left some various things there. It was going to be thrown out anyway and they told us that they’d leave the door unlocked for us and to take whatever we wanted. So I...

5 Ways to Study Better in Undergrad - Caribbean MD Guy 29/04/2019

5 Ways to Study Better in Undergrad: Using active learning to study more efficiently (and have more free time!)

5 Ways to Study Better in Undergrad - Caribbean MD Guy I did pretty well in undergrad. But I spent WAY more time studying than I probably needed to knowing what I do now, and probably could have done better on the MCAT as well. So if you’re in undergrad for any pre-meds out there, here’s 5 tips for studying I...

Going to Hog island, Grenada - Caribbean MD Guy 24/04/2019

Beofre the start of term 4, we took a little adventure out to Hog Island. It's a small island about a halfish hour drive from campus on the south end of the island. Can only get there via a water taxi or a walking bridge. But when you get there, it's like a little private beach area, there was some live music that day, with some food and reasonably priced drinks. [ 34 more words ]

How to study with Osmosis super efficiently - Caribbean MD Guy 21/04/2019

So I've wrapped up term 3 and am now almost half way done term 4. Going a bit insane. Term 4 has a reputation for being pretty rough, and it has..lived up to that for sure. Hence this weird video that kind of accidentally sums up how studying in med school can be sometimes. I realized the other week that computers control pretty much all aspects of my life right now, they track my [ 306 more words ]

Some things to consider before attending a Caribbean school - Caribbean MD Guy 14/01/2019

So I realized that some of you may be considering going to med school in the Caribbean. I'll spare you the obvious advice, and mention that in a lot of cases, coming down here is a solid path to becoming a doctor if you're the right fit. Case in point-I've seen a lot of students struggle with family issues or not acclimating to the island well. [ 3,717 more words ]

Term 1 med, looking back - Caribbean MD Guy 14/01/2019

Looking back I’m super grateful that I had some time to adapt to things before term 1 med-I’ve met a group of amazing people, I stayed with 1 of the same roommates from term 1 MPH, and had a feel for how SGU operates. Term 1 was exciting, but also a grind. I think the best way to go about reflecting on this is to think about the different sections of the curriculum, and go from there, since your life does kind of revolve around that here, haha. First year of med school on the books! - Caribbean MD Guy 14/01/2019

There were times when I thought I couldn't get through, was homesick, seriously doubted my ability to learn this stuf, but I somehow managed! MPH term 1! 01/08/2018

I was pretty lucky to have done my first term as MPH instead of MD. To be honest, there is a lot to get used to and the schedule is pretty laxed compared to med school. So I had some time to acclimate and adjust to life on the island that usually isnt there for incoming med students. I've was able to do a decent amount of exploring this semester, meet some great people, learn to scuba dive, do some tours, all the good stuff! [ 829 more words ]

Done lots of exploring, learned a lot, definitely have some interesting stories to tell. Going to be working on some posts to reflect on the year I've had, but basically in a nutshell I've finished MPH term 1, MD term 1, and MPH term 2 (over the summer). [ 98 more words ]

First 2 weeks down! 04/09/2017

So, I’m starting my 3rd week and I’m getting a decent feel for classes. Not too many people, probably about 30. Much more DVM/MPH people than MD/MPH, and 3 people with MDs that came back to do the MPH. Things are completely different for me than my roommates, who are both in term 1 of their MD program. Haven’t seen too much of them since class started. [ 537 more words ]
