NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK
This week throughout our Centre we have been exploring National Reconciliation Week, with these meaningful learning experiences continuing into next week.
The children have engaged in many wonderful opportunities to learn about and explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, including learning Kaurna words, exploring Indigenous music and stories, creating artwork inspired by Indigenous art and community artworks, and so much more.
At our Centre, we recognise the importance of embedding Indigenous culture and perspectives into our everyday program to help deepen children’s understanding and respect for the First Nations peoples of Australia. To further support this journey, we have recently purchased additional resources to assist educators in everyday planning and ensure these perspectives continue to be meaningfully incorporated throughout the year.
If you haven’t yet seen our Centre Reconciliation Action Plan, we encourage you to take a moment to read through it and see how we are continuing to strengthen our commitment to reconciliation, cultural inclusion, and meaningful learning opportunities for children and families. It is located in the foyer next to our beautiful Indigenous painting that represents our service. Alternatively, families can also read about our goals and planned initiatives for the coming months in our latest newsletter emailed to families.
We are proud to continue learning together on Kaurna land as a community, fostering respect, inclusion, and connection.

📚✨ National Simultaneous Storytime ✨📚
Today the Kindy and Preschool children went on an exciting adventure to the Hub Library, where they joined many other schools and childcare services to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime!
The children enjoyed watching a fun and interactive performance presented by the library staff based on this year’s book, Luna Roo. 🌙🦘
Throughout the session, the children enthusiastically watched the performance (cheering for goals) and joined in with action songs before and after the story, keeping everyone engaged, moving and having fun! 🎶
What a wonderful experience sharing the joy of stories, music and community together. 💛

We were so incredibly proud to have our children participate in this year’s local art show, showcasing their creativity, ideas and sense of identity through collaborative artwork inspired by the theme “When I Grow Up.” These opportunities allow children to share their voices with the wider community while celebrating the learning happening within our Centre each day.

As part of ongoing professional learning, our team has recently begun the Foundations of Child Safety Training — a new and important training that is now required for anyone working with children.
This training focuses on strengthening knowledge and commitment to keeping children safe, ensuring all educators are equipped with the tools to support children’s wellbeing.
Today, Teeka and Tanika completed their training and came across a powerful video that really resonated with us. It highlights just how impactful early relationships and interactions are in shaping a child’s development.
We’d love to share it with our families and community — it’s definitely worth a watch 💛

At our Centre, we are always striving to reflect on our practices, build our knowledge, and ensure we are providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for every child.

Today was an exciting day for our Preschool children! 🌿📚
The children enjoyed a very special interactive story session with none other than Alicia Nunn from Happy Valley Books, who read her own published book, 'Rosie Visits Her Grandma’s Garden'.
The children were highly engaged throughout the story — naming, counting and interacting as Alicia read along. It was wonderful to see their excitement and participation.
We are already looking forward to purchasing Alicia’s next book once it is published 😊
Thank you for visiting us, Alicia! It was lovely connecting with you, and we can’t wait to have you back again.

Today Erin Thompson visited AHCCC to check out our newly started 3-year-old Preschool program and read a book to the children. The children loved One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish read by Erin. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to engage with a familiar story, and we loved seeing Erin take the time to connect with our Kindy learners. We truly value our local MP actively engaging with the community and showing a genuine interest in early childhood education and local families.
