NEW STUDENT PRICING FOR THIS FRIDAY ONLY! ONLY $10, ONLY 12 SPOTS
Geologists everywhere will tell you that the easiest way to ID rocks is to lick them. 👅🗿At the Nature Education Centre we totally agree! Fair warning, there are plenty of rocks you shouldn't lick. Fresh igneous rocks should not be licked, as they're quite hot and may burn your tongue.
Come join the workshop to learn how to identify and analyse the coolest rocks on earth! (without licking them 😄)
Classes are designed for children aged 5–13 years and support homeschool learning goals!
Price: $10 per child (special discount for new students only 5/6/2026)

Good news everyone! Thanks to your support the Friday sessions are ready to rock and roll! This week our bug theme has us close and personal to Australia's most beautiful butterflies and the awesome arachnids that rule the desert!
Next week were rocking it out and diving into the collection of gems and minerals to learn ID techniques and the lifecycles of different rocks. The Nature Education Centre is lucky enough to be debuting our fossil collection here so get hands on and book before even this session runs out!

Leonardo is a ninja turtle! It's true! Long necks are clever little hunters going undercover in ponds and rivers of SA. He will use his long neck to hunt his favourite foods, fish, insects, tadpoles, frogs,
yabbies and other crustaceans.
During the dry months, Long-necked Turtles bury themselves in mud or soil in dried up water bodies, protecting them from the drought. This specialised hunter is lucky enough to visit students throughout the school year during our educational talks and helps to raise awareness about the importance of keeping our rivers and other water habitats safe and clean from pollution!

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the NEC and we truly wouldn't exist without their time, dedication and continuous kindness at every level of our organisation.
Our animal volunteers work hard on the husbandry and care of over 20 species every days!
Our archival crew have the impossible task of organising and caring for the specimen collection that covers close to 500 species and measures thousands of items from all over Australia.
Our admin volunteers keep the cogs turning and ensure you all are able to see and access our collection all over SA. We even have an incredible horticulture volunteer group who help create sources of food for our animals.🙌
We may only be a small part of their journey into the careers of animal science and the natural world or we may be a lifelong friend for the people passionate enough to never leave our home. To everyone who has gifted us your smiles, your knowledge and your excitement - thank you for everything.
If you've ever been interested in what we do or are looking to jump on board, we'd love to hear from you! There's always a place for those who want to share our love of the natural world!
Lots of love,
The NEC team 💚🍃

It’s great to support youngsters learning about nature. Dear Ewok provided owl casts for 25 students to dissect to understand owl digestion and diet at Nature Education Centre.

Want to try out our homeschooling class and donate to a great cause?
We have had two of these vouchers donated for our Biggest Morning Tea fundraising on Wednesday 20th May. They are worth $25.00 each but it would be good to have offers over that amount.
Please message if you are interested
