PVOGS : Pre-Vocational Obstetrics & Gynaecology Society - AUS & NZ Our society is a network representing the transition from a medical student to an O&G registrar, connecting pre-vocational doctors/students with RANZCOG.

The Pre-Vocational Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society representing Australia and New Zealand was founded in 2015 with the aim of developing a sense of community and portal of communication between medical students and junior doctors interested in O&G. The Pre-Vocational Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society (PVOGS) of Australia and New Zealand was founded in 2015 with the aim of developing a sense of community and portal of communication between medical students and junior doctors interested in obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G). Our goal is to promote and foster active interest in matters affecting the O&G field and its training pathway as well as, enhance the educational opportunities given to medical students and junior doctors. PVOGS also provides a central communication point for all medical students and junior doctors to facilitate the foundation and continuation of university and state-based O&G interest groups. Dr Dominique Atley is a Level 1 RANZCOG trainee working at The Mercy Hospital for Women in Victoria. Dom pursued a strong interest in Women’s Health in medical school and throughout her early years as a junior doctor, finding Obstetrics and Gynaecology to be the ideal intersection of surgery, emergency medicine and continuity of patient care. She is particularly interested in rural healthcare and plans to work as a rural generalist.

PVOGS ANZ Women’s Health Conference 2026: Breaking the Silence
📢 Speaker Spotlight

Prof Symonds is the Dean of Education at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He qualified in Medicine at Nottingham Medical School in 1983 and trained in general medicine and obstetrics and gynecology in the UK. He completed specialist training in Obstetrics in 1997 and a Doctor of Medicine research higher degree in 1995.

Prof Symonds has been a chief investigator on studies on the treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, genetics of pre-eclampsia, infrared spectroscopic analysis of cervical smears, detection of ovarian cancer using Tc-99 labelled monoclonal antibody, innate immunity to Chlamydia, the psychosocial aspects of maternal age, genetics of endometrial cancer, growth restriction and preterm labour, attachment disorders, cervical screening, fetal ECG ST-Analysis and induction of labour. He has published more than 80 peer review papers and is the immediate past editor of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Prof Symonds has led several major curriculum change processes and innovations in both national and local settings and played an active role in research projects on inter-professional learning, widening access to medical school, student selection, work place based assessment and the use of e-portfolios in medical education. He has published a number of undergraduate textbooks and has a Masters Degree in Clinical Education. He has held a number of national leadership roles including the Dean of Medicine at the University of Adelaide and Newcastle, Presidency of the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand and Vice President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Deputy Vice Chancellor IMU University, Malaysia.

A/Prof Seeho is an academic obstetrician at the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at The University of Sydney. Since 2015, he has been Co-Head of the Specialty of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology at The University of Sydney. As Chair of the Stillbirth Foundation Australia (SFA), Australia’s first charity dedicated to raising awareness of stillbirth and funding research to reduce the incidence and impact of stillbirth, he represents the thousands of Australian families impacted by stillbirth. He is a member of the Executive and Steering Committees of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Stillbirth (Stillbirth CRE) and was a member of the NHMRC- approved Care Around Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Clinical Practice Guideline Development Committee and working groups.

PVOGS ANZ Women’s Health Conference 2026: Breaking the Silence
📢 Speaker Spotlight

Professor Jayashri Kulkarni AM graduated from Monash University medical school and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Professor Kulkarni is nationally and internationally recognised for her pioneering hormone and trauma work in women’s mental health research She founded and directs two large psychiatry research groups. In 2021, she developed and directs Australia’s first women’s mental health hospital at Cabrini Health, Melbourne. She was awarded the Order of Australia for her service to Psychiatry in 2018 and two of the College’s most prestigious awards in 2024, for her research and for clinical service.

📢 Speaker Spotlight

Dr Catriona Melville is a gynaecologist and subspecialist in sexual and reproductive health and the Clinical Lead for Reproductive Health at Logan Hospital, Brisbane. Catriona is an Associate Editor for ANZJOG and Chair of RANZCOG’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Committee. She also serves on the Boards of the Women’s Health Education Network and FIAPAC and is an international Councillor of the College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare, UK (CoSRH).
An author, educator and advocate, Catriona is passionate about delivering person-centred, evidence-based care and empowering people to take an active role in their health decisions. She is committed to advancing reproductive rights and education, through clinical leadership, research, guideline development and collaboration at local national and international levels.

PVOGS ANZ Women’s Health Conference 2026: Breaking the Silence

Dr Minerva Kyei-Nimakoh is a Research Fellow in the Department of General Practice at the University of Melbourne. Her mixed-methods research focuses on how healthcare services identify and respond to intimate partner violence, with expertise in designing, and implementing evaluations of family violence programs in healthcare settings. Her work aims to increase the capacity of healthcare workers to support people who have experienced intimate partner violence using evidence-informed practice.

She led the SAFE Project Expanded, which used a System Audit Tool to build the evidence base in Victoria, for how health services can effectively implement system change to reduce the burden of ill health for patients and hospital staff who experience family violence. 

Minerva applies an intersectional lens to shed light on the experiences and healthcare needs of people from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from migrant and refugee communities. She also manages the evaluation component of the Antenatal Screening in Multiple Languages Project at the Royal Women’s Hospital, embedding and evaluating a family violence digital screening tool in English and more than 30 additional languages.

Her research seeks to translate evidence into sustainable practice change, ensuring health services are responsive, culturally safe and better equipped to support people affected by family violence.
