🦗🪲A Special Visitor at Goodstart Magill! 🐞🐛
Can you guess what it is?
Our outdoor environment sparked plenty of excitement this week when the children discovered a praying mantis! The children were immediately curious and eager to learn more about our fascinating visitor.
Together, the children and educators researched praying mantises, exploring where they live, what they eat, how they camouflage themselves, and the important role they play in the environment. Through this shared investigation, the children asked thoughtful questions, developed their research skills, and deepened their understanding of the natural world around them.
Moments like these remind us that some of the best learning happens when we follow children’s interests and embrace the unexpected discoveries nature brings. 🌿💚

Reconciliation Week 2026
This week, we have been ALL IN as we immersed ourselves in learning about and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Through stories, art, music, puzzles, conversations, and hands-on experiences, the children explored the rich histories, traditions, and perspectives of First Nations peoples.
Reconciliation is a journey we walk together, and we are proud to create opportunities for children to learn about, appreciate, and celebrate the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

🐢 ALL IN 🐍
This week, the children explored Aboriginal-inspired art experiences, working together to create a turtle and snake using symbols, patterns, and colour.
Using colourful gems, paper squares, and then eventually oil pastels, the children decorated the animals, developing creativity, concentration, and fine motor skills along the way. ✨
As we created, we discussed how Aboriginal art can share stories, culture, and connection to Country. The children showed such curiosity, focus, and pride in their work while experimenting with colours, shapes, and textures.
We value opportunities like these that encourage respect, understanding, and appreciation of Australia’s rich First Nations cultures and histories. 🖤💛❤️

🖤💛❤️ Sorry Day ❤️💛🖤
Today our Kindergarten children explored the meaning of National Sorry Day through story books, conversations and shared learning experiences. Together, we reflected on the history of the Stolen Generations and the importance of kindness, respect, understanding and reconciliation.
Through age-appropriate learning, children are encouraged to develop empathy, curiosity and a deeper appreciation for Australia’s history and culture. We are proud to create opportunities for meaningful discussions that help build a more inclusive and respectful future for all.

Our little community gardens have become such a special part of learning at Goodstart Magill 🌱
The children enjoy going on walking excursions to our garden plot just a few minutes from the centre, where they experience the full cycle of growing, harvesting and enjoying plants they have cared for from seed. 🍈 🥒 🌽
Through these hands-on experiences, children learn about sustainable practices, caring for the environment, patience, responsibility and where food comes from. We know children learn best by doing — using their hands, exploring their senses and being actively involved in meaningful experiences.
There is something so powerful about watching children proudly harvest something they helped grow themselves 💚

💪🏻 Gross motor skills are such an important part of early childhood development 🌿
Through climbing, running, hopping, skipping and jumping, children build strength, coordination, balance and confidence in their bodies. These active experiences also support brain development, spatial awareness, resilience and social skills as children learn to take risks, challenge themselves and play alongside others.
At Goodstart Magill, we provide opportunities every day for children to move, explore and grow through active play in fun and meaningful ways 💛

All Children Communicate!
At Goodstart Magill, we are committed to supporting every child’s communication, confidence, and sense of belonging.
As part of our ongoing assessment and planning cycle, educators regularly complete the All Children Communicate Summative Assessment, a strengths‑based tool that helps us understand how children develop their communication skills across areas such as:
💬 listening and attention
💛 understanding
🗣️ speaking
🤝 social communication
This assessment supports educators to:
✔️ celebrate each child’s progress
✔️ identify strengths and next steps
✔️ plan intentional experiences that support language and communication
✔️ work in partnership with families where additional support may be helpful
Communication is at the heart of learning, relationships, and wellbeing, and this assessment helps ensure every child is supported to express themselves in ways that are meaningful to them.
If you have any questions about assessments or your child’s learning journey, please feel free to speak with your child’s educators or the leadership team.
💙 Together, we support all children to belong, be, and become.

At Goodstart Magill, learning comes to life through hands-on, meaningful experiences ✨
Our children recently explored a fun “rescue the bugs” water activity using tweezers—building important fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and concentration. Along the way, they were also identifying colours, developing language, and learning to take turns with their peers.
Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, experiences like these support children to become confident, capable learners through play-based exploration 🐞💧
If you’re looking for a centre where learning is engaging, intentional, and tailored to each child’s development, we’d love to welcome you for a tour.
Come and see the magic of learning in action 💛
